That would be an IVY running IBT.
I have just tried it on an i3750k and it went north of 100C almost instantly
Suspect other programs using the linpac binaries will do the same.

I am now using AVX enabled Prime95 v27.4 to test for stability instead.
It is nice to know your IBT stable but i'm not running it on the IB again.
 
Seems my chip needs around 1.35v to be stable at 4.7
Prime96 V27.4 the AVX enabled one, can push the temps pretty high as well.
Especially on the small fft's.

is 4.5 possible with a couple little bumps or not rly?
id like see more reviews of people using them in games, of the retail chips

i think if most reach 4.5 easily its not too bad
i wanted build up something new and im not convinced right now but then only other option is 2011 and thats going to cost more for the motherboard and might not be any faster >_<
 
4.5Ghz with 1.325v and decent temps is fine and what I will use 24/7.

I also have 4.6 and 4.7Ghz profiles now saved and stable, the temps are higher, but still under a maximum of 80C running Prime95.
 
Mine is on its way. I'll let you know how I get on. Will probably run it on stock for a few days until I get a proper chance to read up on overclocking them. Very different from my Q6600.
 
Could people indicate what cooler is in use when over-clocking? OCUK's over-clocked packages come with the 'Prolimatech Megahalems Black CPU Cooler w/ Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000RPM 120mm Fan' which is seriously big heat sink which is, presumably, how they get their 4.6GHz speeds.
 
The IB chips are 22nm aren't they? They'll degrade a hell of a lot faster at high voltages than the older 45nm ones. Mixing 1.35V and 100 degrees should kill it off remarkably quickly.

The rule of smaller process, lower "safe" voltage seems to have been entirely forgotten since 65nm days :(

i like your mobo choice, and the ssd :P
for me it would be nice to see if a IB running 4.2 or something is same as SB at 4.6 in games
if so then its still the smart way to go

i think its confusing times
but i like my fps games at low res so its all that matters to me
 
Something seriously wrong with IB if those temps are right, it's presumably on stock heatsink though? I imagine it gets even hotter if you run with the onboard GPU enabled? :(

As JonJ678 you're probably pushing too much voltage... 1.35V on IB is like using 1.45V on SB.

It doesn't matter how big the heatsink is.
Once they take off thermally nothing can contain them short of extreme sub zero.
