sorry about the rubbish cut n paste. lol other thing is I'm using a corsair H50. I do have a 1156 bracket, does that fit the 1155 socket?

thanks in advance for any advice.

Obviously this is personal preference, but I would get an MSI motherboard. They seem to offer so many good features such as OC Genie, Solid caps, Click BIOS etc. Yet again.. So does the ASUS boards. It's a hard choice. But that's my recommendation. Both are brilliant though :)

What is there to say. The Asus Maximus is a good board, although it's mATX, the CPU is good, the ram is expensive but good. It's got tall heatsinks that may be a problem with some air coolers. No problems with a H50.

AFAIK the 1155 share the same mounting holes as the 1156 so the cooler should fit.

You'll be looking at 4.4GHz overclock. Maybe 4.6GHz, although it appears the Ivy's don't like too much voltage.

hmmm I got a huge case. so Size of motherboard is not a problem,
I want to oc it to 4.6 ghz so which mobo do you guys suggest?

Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBHR0-G0EAY0KZ]
or
Asus P8Z77-V PRO Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBHS0-G0EAY0DZ]

sorry for me using asus boards, just Ive never had any problems with them.
if anyones got xp on a serious contender to these boards, Overclocking etc. please suggest. thanks

Hi there,

Personally I would suggest going for a Gigabyte board like this z77x-ud3h. according to this in-depth review it performs and overclocks just as well as the ASUS boards - but Gigabyte have a much better RMA procedure than ASUS (and pretty much every other board manufacturer) should anything go wrong during the three year warranty period.

Also, I would strongly recommend you go for better value RAM. Two of these kits would be excellent, cost only £80, have low profile heatsinks (so unlike the dominator RAM, your choice of CPU cooler won't be restricted if you want to upgrade from the H50) and the real world performance difference between this kit and the 1866MHz dominator will be tiny (and in most cases negligible).

SNIP

+1 to the Gigabyte warrenty

that gigabyte board is out of stock, lpus i've had to rma 2 gigabyte boards in the past, I know I was probably unlucky, but. I've had no problem with asus in the past.

If anyone got any suggestions i'm all ears , thanks in advance.

main priority is for gaming, and i'd like to get it to 4.6 Ghz. cheers

Yes, it does seem to be out of stock on OCUK at the moment - which is unfortunate. If you want an immediate alternative, then the msi z77a-gd55 is a solid board and the one i would go for if the gigabyte wasn't an option (this board also does well in the z77 review i posted earlier).

as for your failing gigabyte boards - i think you must have just been unlucky, if you look here the return rate for Gigabyte motherboards is relatively low and better than ASUS.
