Guild Wars 2

\o/

Nice one Huddy. :) Shame people are going to ignore it. :(

This thread is starting to get tedious, from arguments about using a mic or not, to how hard wow is. At the end of the day its 100% personal preference. Please stay on topic, this thread is getting annoying to read now.

Shame that people seem intent to just ignore a mod's warnings to wind in their necks as well.... :(

If it gets ignored, you can be sure the Dons will take action. This thread is being closely monitored.

Incase anyone has missed it - Please refer to this post.

Let's get back on topic :)

There won't be any mounts, they've said time and time again. And the GW hardcore-fans hate the idea of it because it is too 'WoW like'. GW2 will never have mounts because it therefore contradicts their mission-statement to be 'different'.

I personally would prefer mounts to having instant-teleports everywhere. It defeats part of the 'Massive' feel of the game, in my opinion (viz. the spatial element).

I personally found that there was a fair amount of walking to be done regardless of the waypoints. This could be a good thing though making you fight your way to one area rather than running though it on a mount.

Thanks for that.

I was on the verge of starting a new no bhavv guild wars 2 thread :p

So if we can keep on topic for five minutes..... Have they said defo no mounts? Seems strange to insta teleport instead. Was one of my bug bears with newer mmo's that there was no travelling and insta dungeon/pvp teleports it took away the world and it just felt like a load of randomly connected instances.

Plus mounts are a nice "vanity" item.

Technical issues with mounts, more gameplay mechanics, and more work that they felt they didn't need to do. Teleports are an easy and effective mechanic. Although imo they missed a trick with mounts and micro-transactions. People would go nuts for pet and mount customisations.

I think it's said-vanity that the hardcore Guild Wars community want to do away with, to be honest. I do agree, though, that when trying to step up to an 'MMO' game, having some sense of real travelling is nice. And I know what people say about "running through areas on a mount", but it doesn't necessarily follow that riding a mount should make you immune. Some simple ways to deal with this: demount upon taking damage. Simple fix. Being able to teleport seamlessly from one side of the world to another makes it feel all a little too... instanced.

If not mounts then I would at least prefer some sort of in-game travel system, as opposed to the teleports. I know it follows on from GW1 but that game didn't have the pretense of taking place in a massive, persistent world. GW2 does. It seems a shame that you can just hop around from place to place with no sense of travel or voyage.

I sometimes wandered around and found an event I could join or helped a couple of players while making my way towards the waypoint. And, then again you have to pay for the taxi. Nobody likes to pay!

I think they spoke about that in pre-release interviews, yeah, and I think (though I'm not sure) that I saw a 'Contested' tag on my map whilst I was questing. So, possibly! But still. And yes, olivier, you have to pay currency... but that goes for every other MMO's travel-system, as well. The difference is that other MMO's opt for a small time-sink as well as a gold-sink :) It's a great chance to chat some to your guilds, get a coffee, and admire the views!

I heard somewhere that there may be mounts later on down the line but they wouldn't offer any speed advantage, they would be there for cosmetic purposes as such (can't remember where I saw this).

I could see that as a possibility if they wanted to stick with the teleport system as it allows Anet to make money as people buy different mounts through the cash shop.

One thing that I loved about the game was exploring the areas and how nice it was. When I first played LOTRO i loved the different landscape and how I was running through Middle Earth. With Rift I like some of the areas as they did look ncie but they didn't have that wow factor.

Now with GW2, I think I was walking around going oh that looks nice, oh wow thats cool, oh I like this city ( I think I annoyed the misses with my constant Oh and ah ing :P). There was something about the environment that really clicked with me!

Ahh okay, missed that - yeah me too but hell, I'll put up with teleports for such an awesome game :)

The environment is gorgeous, yeah, really nicely done. I really hope they add more graphics customisation options, though, because with 'high' Shader settings the entire world had far too much Bloom and far too much of a plastic-ky feel to it. The buildings and vistas are really nice, pastel-shaded and very immersive. But then your character and certain other elements seem to have a bright-white glow because of the graphics effects. Just hope this can be tweaked using in-game settings or an .ini file!

Really the teleport system is the only technical solution to travelling, anyway, because of the fact that every quest zone is instanced and on a separate shard of the server. Travelling seamlessly between environments and quest-zones using an in-game transport system or a mount would be pretty much impossible.

Any sort of traditional mount in WvW would cut down on travel time and would effect battles severely.

They could maybe add them as purely cosmetic feature with the same movement speed as players, would look silly though.

Not a big fan of the Waypoint system mainly becuase you can trade gems for gold and gold for waypoints.

The other option for Mounts is to make them the equivalent of a 'Weapon' so when your mounted your skills become 5 new mounted skills. Make 'Knights' a part of the game but give them enough negatives as well so you did not get everyone instantly on horseback.

Things like interchangeable saddles and horse armour would make them hundreds of thousands of pounds alone I'd guess.

Actually on the subject of mounts it does get really annoying in main cities with people mounting and hopping all over the place, or just a "sea" of mounts - yeah screw you mount system (and the horse you rode in on) < :)

I didn't realise that :(

It's a bit like the channel system in swept which irritated. GW2 seems such a large and expensive project in surprised they couldn't afford a little extra (or a lot whatever :p) for a fully seamless world.

Re-posting this, as the last 5 pages have been punching each other in the face.

Did anyone find any decent combo skills?

As an elementalist I was having a blast setting up combo fields and firing arcane blasts / arcane waves.

As a warrior w rifle it was more of a case of trying to position combo fields in between the targets. The sniper trait made this a little more involved as it then became an effort to line up combo field - target - more targets as the shots pierce.

Edit - guys can you post on this to give it some attention: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/Trait-Feedback/page/1#post80078

I think some of the trait descriptions are dire and it really makes picking and choosing difficult, advanced tooltips would be an awesome addition imo.

Simply make it so you dismount automatically upon crossing the threshold of the city (like going into a tunnel on wow used to do) that way your cities are bustling with people but not horses etc.

Great idea :)

Would love that!
