No I'm not, are you? perhaps you can tell me what the effects of her rant are besides causing offence to a carriage load of people, and maybe I'll change my opinion on whether she deserves a jail sentence.
Just so you know, I do think she should be punished but jail is to harsh for the crime she committed.

Seriously though a verbal attack on someone is criminal behavior. Expressing an opinion on someone is not. I think Alan Sugar is a grade A ****. It's fine for me to write him a letter, or say it to him, or express it publicly, however if I was in his face shouting it at him it would be criminal.

I am a very hard of hearing person and I got (so called) verbal attacks since I was a kid I just thought they was morons and got on with my life.

I agree with you; jail is too harsh and too costly etc.

With regards to be offended, what you have to remember is that people in minority groups probably receive much more abuse thank you know about or acknowledge, and this is just another nail in the coffin. What if you were on that bus and your grandparents had been american slaves...

Her subject matter is obviously offensive, intended to offend, and developed from an evidently poor understanding of the world, and of biology.
 
Pretty harsh going to jail tbh. Smells like media pressure on the judge tbh.

She isn't dangerous, just an idiot. A formal apology and fines would have done in my eyes.

Nobody has the right not to be offended (now arguably untrue in this country), however it's not the offence that is the issue, it's the verbal assault. If I'm screaming in your face that I like custard and I'm following you around and doing it in an aggressive manner then it's the same thing.

In fairness as pointed out throughout the thread, sorting her alcohol problems out would have been a better solution. Racist or not it's a waste of money sending her to prison and a bit OTT.
 
I think the point is that one crime *can* be a result of a mental pathology and disorder, thus treatable by rehabilitation and other forms of treatment, whereas the other is a form of bigotry and mental arrogance that, whilst extreme, is not a medical condition. Being reductive and saying "so jail for racists and rehab for rapists" makes you sound a little bit too much like a Daily Mail reader.

Pardon? They have to be racist? Did you hear it correctly? If so then I wonder who is compelling them.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about the potential for a custodial sentence - let's be clear here, she hasn't actually been sentenced yet according to the article. While it does seem somewhat over the top it is not the first time she has been found guilty of such an offence which makes custodial sentencing much more likely and that's simply a result of the way we've elected to have our judicial system - in sentencing (and only for sentencing) do previous crimes have a bearing.
 
In the circumstances I don't think jail time is unreasonable. I have to love Spawn swooping in again to get annoyed by the same characters, fair enough but so predictable :D

It's full of people of all ages and no swearing help keep things civil. I'm sure you will warm to it eventually, banter is usually encouraged :p
 
Serves the stupid bint right. Yes, I agree it seems a bit OTT and disproportionate to what a lot of scum seem to get away with but I'm not too fussed. No place for ignorant muppets like her in society.
 
Don't really see how sending her to jail will make her change her views on other races.

Would it not be better to speak with those she apparently hates?? She might realise Asians aren't as bad as she thought..... I mean am I talking ****? Is this a stupid suggestion?

I do worry about those who uphold the law......
