I remember some of these from the early 70's when I was nipper, and frankly some of them used to terrify me.

This one in particular used to scare the carp out of me:


Anybody else remember them? Did they give you nightmares?

I don't remember it but that's brilliant and actually very good. Not talking down to anyone, but entertaining and poinient.
 
the ones about playing on railway lines and messing about on national grid pylons were the best. I remember one where a boy is trying to get something off a power line with a long stick and he gets fried.

They used to show us these at Junior school at least once or twice per term.
 
There was something about them that really made you stop and think. The fact that they're remebered so vividly after all those years I guess proves that they must have had some effect.
 
Threads wasn't a PIF, more of of a docu-drama but very effective. Protect and Survive was the series of Nuclear War PIFs, however they were never actually broadcast publicly, although you can watch them online.

The one with all the kids being killed by farmyard stuff is pretty brutal too :p
