***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

So is definately a pentile screen? Is there any evidence as to whether the exynos > tegra3?

Also it has all that space above and below a screen that is bigger than the one x screen and yet is barely bigger? Does the one x have THAT much wasted space above/below the screen then? I thought it was really good design wise?

I have 14GB of music (now that I walk to work and back I use this :p) and all my videocam recordings are stored on the phone as well. No SD card means I need to offload media to my PC and think twice about how long I record videos or store music.

I also transport movies on my phone when visiting family/friends to watch via HDMI so this plays a role in having an SD card slot as well

That all kind of changed when I got this new job as I walk to work so make use of the SD card space available!
cant u just carry a 32gb usb stick/key that can be put inside your wallet or your house keys?

I think the phone looks poor and the screen is a disappointment but can somebody let me know why HTC One X is so much better?

My colleague at work has a One X and the screen is definitely amazing and the phone is gorgeous. Even the grey version. Easily on par with (dare I say better) the Lumia phones.

But at the moment what I can see is:

Quad Core for both
1850 mAh non removable battery vs 2100 mAh removable battery
4.7" vs 4.8" (although I'd rather have a slightly smaller screen)
Super LCD 2 vs HD Super Amoled
Non removable storage vs removable storage
Quality build quality vs questionable material use (build quality pending)

I rarely purchase my electronics using style over substance. I buy to my spec (hence my ageing and decrepit Milestone) and my needs. Can somebody let me know why the S3 will be such a poor choice to buy?

It's not a poor choice, it's personal preference and comes down to your requirements.

They're both pretty close really. You know the differences as you've listed them!

It's basically screen quality and design quality vs larger battery and expandable storage (in very short :p).

Try out Google Music then if you have a decent signal when walking, etc.

Decent signal on 3 is not a problem anywhere I go as you know :p

Once the battery drain issues are confirmed as completely fixed on the One X I will check battery results I think as well. 1850 vs 2100 is a big jump although looking at the differences to my S2 with 2000mAh, the One X is getting better battery results from the limited graphs people have posted.

Your assessment is about right, it's swings and roundabouts based on everything revealed so far, I think people expected the S2 white wash of the competition, but it's just clinging in there, which is really only because HTC stepped up to the game, but the HOX isn't perfect, so you now have more thinking to do when choosing a phone at the moment

One X is not much better at all. No one has said this
The S3 is a beast no doubt but everyone was expecting more, We were expecting them to blow HTC out of the water but instead it just highlights how well HTC did with the One launch. And to your points the biggest difference in screen is that the HTC One X is using an IPS LCD NON pentile screen where as the SG3 is using an SAMOLED (not the +) pentile screen, It will probably be the same as the Galaxy Nexus id imagine.

Also forgive me if im wrong but wont using SAMOLED over the SLCD IPS panel need more juice? So probably the bigger battery will probably be about even when you take into consideration the power usage of the screen.

I could be wrong

I know I'm on my own here but i quite like the look of the S3, if you look around the net at some of the pictures I think it's nice enough. The 4.8" screen is too big for me though, 4.5" would be about the maximum I would go for and I can't believe they didn't go for a "+" screen ( Apple are selling millions of new ipads on screen quality alone). The spec on the other hand for the S3 seems all good, not sure whats not to like. Has any one found a benchmark review yet ?

This version of the SaMOLED HD screen has been tweaked and is slightly different from the one in the GNex according to info I'm getting.

Not sure if that's better or worse. :p

Mainly negative comments in this thread, but after watching a few videos on Engadget I think it actually looks alright. OK, nothing really groundbreaking, and the back of the phone does indeed look very cheap, but apart from that it looks like a nice step up (bigger screen without making the actual phone much bigger, camera features). I am staying with my S2 though, cannot justify the cost for an upgrade.

You're not on your own! I quite like it too, especially after seeing 'real' photos rather than the launch show pics. I'd say it looks better than the One X but slightly worse than the S2 (blue/black version I mean, I dislike white phones). I'll wait and see what the pentile display is like, it's probably just fine at this res and I do love SAMOLED displays. The S3 is pretty much what I expected, comparable hardware to the other high-end androids and with plenty of software features, some useful some not (I don't want to talk to my phone...). It has the right features/improvements to swing it over the One X for me.
