***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Ah so you're venting your own personal dislike for such big screened phones as a global issue then.

Awesome!

It's an issue for many people. What did you think it was? 99% of posts are opinions. So that's a **** reply.

are you one of these people who wear a jacket in 30degrees heat on a summers day.

ARRRGHHHHHHHHHH... this pic sums it up.

disappointment+%25282%2529.jpg

One of the most overhyped and underwhelming phone releases ever.

  • Pentile screen
  • very plasticky look and feel
  • Pointless hardware button when it ships with ICS
  • Same 8MP camera as SGS II but back-lit.

No idea what Samsung were thinking, this really seems like a mediocre new flagship device if ever I saw one. Great if you are new to Android and had no expectations, but massively dissappointing if you were waiting for it with baited breath.

I wanted more. :(

Of course t that would be stupid!

I wear jeans or whatever like anyone else and put the phone I'm my front pocket.

I imagine it could be a problem if you wear skin tight jeans though...

I quite liked the styling straight away. Still not decided on the blue, would have preferred a charcoal/black to it. Think I'll probably go white anyway.

The only thing I'm a little disappointed on is the pentile screen but then again, when I saw the Nexus in the flesh I couldn't fault it. At least it has micro SD which is the reason I didn't get the Nexus on launch when my contract expired.

... and you will fight the corner of your soon to be new phone to the death. Awesome!

No.

I'm fighting the corner for all thin big screened phones regardless of brand

Look back a year and you will see people moaning that the S2 was too big to hold and pocket and yet now it's the perfect size since people have gotten accustomed to it and forget it's even in the pocket.

People will adjust. Just moan initially thought lke people above.

How so? I am still waiting for an Android phone to entice me back, yet to find one.

I lost my SII in November. I couldn't replace it with another as there was no stock and couldn't wait (business phone). I got the iPhone 4S 64GB instead. Honestly, both platforms compare favourably. I don't want this to be a circlejerk of iPhone vs Android, but comments like this are unjust.

It's cool to hate apple. ^^

Indeed.

While people on here may not want to accept it, the general public's perception is still that the iPhone is 'the' phone to have. I try and correct people where possible but trying to explain that your phone has a quad core processor and a screen they believe to be massive doesn't always go down very well.

The iPhone is still selling by the bucket load, more than 36 million in Q2 this year alone.

I do not know what the wolfson dac is exactly, aside from something to do with sound processing...?

BUT.... I just read that it is in the iPods however. I actually prefer the sound coming out of my $25 LG Ally more than the sound coming out of my $300 iTouch 3rd Gen.

Will this wolfson dac be better than the one in the iTouch?

and what the heck audio processing unit thing was in my LG Ally that made it sound so darn beautiful in comparison?

Any help/info is greatly appreciated! :p

Wolfson are generally considered to have the best DAC's around so the fact they've gone back to them is a big plus.

I don't know much more than that about them, their new one might be rubbish, but I suspect not.

It'll be the same one found in the One S/X, all the real improvements will come from the faster ISP/encoder and greater bandwidth (and lens)
The next advance in mobile sensor technology is the 'stacked' design and rgbw. Expect a major fanfare with those :p (hayabusa maybe)

Thought so.

I'm now preferring this phone over the One X in looks and seeing more videos off what samsung have put into ICS i'd say i prefer it easily over sense. Like mrk i'll go for a blue/black theme though.

also Robbo's comments stink of justification to his One X, almost desperate to negative everything postive on the GS3. Once it comes out then it can be driectly compared to the One X.

Saying the screen is worst/wireless charging is slow etc is something only people who have held the phone/compared directly to one x and used the wireless charging can answer. One X is a great phone no question, enjoy the Tegra 3 :p

You only think that because I've posted a lot. Unfortunately my comments are amongst a sea of people digging for positives to overcome the design disappointments.

There are plenty of positives, no doubt.

I'm the same. I was expecting too much for the SG3.

The performance - cpu, gpu,DAC, battery, SD card, etc all ticks the right boxes.

The screen not been improved and styling has left me cold. I actually prefer the SG2

Now I don't know whether to get the One X or wait for something better from somebody else.

Any other phones due out soon?

Indeed. The internals and the expandable storage (and on board storage options) are fine, more than fine really, excellent.

The battery is a nice improvement and it could (and should) have really great battery life. The DAC is good news as well (assuming it's as good as the Wolfson of old).

I know I may appear negative but I'm really trying to be positive. If you look at comments many people don't like the design and seem very disappointed. I'm reserving final judgement until I've actually held one, but the pictures and video seem to be telling the story.

I just find it bizarre that Samsung have essentially made it even more 'plasticky' and not less so. That was the main complaint levelled at the GS2. They obviously haven't listened to anyone.

I thought this would probably happen, there was never any real confirmation of SAMOLED+ as much as everyone wanted it, and in fairness a 12MP camera isn't warranted, but as the camera MP is the main technical aspect the public care about, it may have sold better with a megapixel bump.

Now I don't know whether to get the One X or wait for something better from somebody else.

There's talk of a Sony Hayabusa phone in the works, but nothing concrete on that.

Ultimately it's between this and the One X (you should probably wait for actual reviews first) but it seems to be a case of expandable storage/battery life vs the things you like better on the One X.

The choices this year are going to be:

The HTC One X

The Galaxy S III

The iPhone 5 - definitely worth looking out for, as Apple have to do a lot of work with this one (a few months away though)

The Sony Hayabusa... maybe.

The Galaxy Nexus too, aside from limited storage and dated internals it's not that far behind the rest. Stock ICS and the design are both big selling points and it will probably be cheaper than the others.

... and Galaxy Note. If not too big.

I think people's disappointment just goes to show how good the SGSII was and still is. I personally like it, I'd prefer a non-pentile screen but then again am I really going to notice? I'm not so sure.

Really happy they stuck a notification LED on :p I really do miss having one. If I was needing a new phone I'd be definitely considering the SGSIII, as well as the HTC One X or S. Happy with my SGSII for now though so will probably wait until next year for a change.

Isn't the voice software in the SGSIII similar to the one bundled with the SGSII? I'm very disappointed that they seem to have nicked the whole Siri screen layout, even right down to the pattern on the background of the screen, it's just like why  they are better than that. Actually scratch that I'm thinking of the wrong background :p

A bit fugly but i'm still going to get one.

I think not quite as fugly as my nokia 5800 so it'll be a fugliness upgrade

:D

Edit: what is a pentile screen and why is it bad?

So it's just coming out to fight round one. ;) One couldn't expect more from a fan and soon to be owner.

That post makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.

Edit: what is a pentile screen and why is it bad?
It's not really "bad" because if you look at the Galaxy Nexus it's pretty clear it's not bad or as bad as some people are making out. Yes we all expected an RGB screen but going by tech radar's text quality thoughts and other reviewers thoughts as well last night, the PPI is just fine and text is very smooth.

Basically first gen pentile AMOLED had text that didn't look very smooth especially when zoomed out. The Galaxy S2 is fine zoomed in but zoom out and small fonts look weird as detail is lost. The S2 has a much lower PPI count though. The GNex is just fine and the S3 doesn't seem to be any different here, maybe an improvement even if the reports last night are anything to go by.

People will moan because it's easier to moan when expectations were not met I guess :p Yeah some of my expectations were not met with the design and the screen but the positives outweigh everything else and the expectations I had were more personal preference anyway and most of them are met.
