***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Why? The fact they've made the back of the phone look worse for the purposes of 'brand establishment' seems a bit strange.

The majority of the time you see the back of the phone is when someone else is holding it, so there hand breaks up symmetry anyway, this was people who can't identify a phone by a bit of the back case can tell it is a Samsung.

You seriously don't get the marketing pov here?

Why do laptops have the logo snack in the middle of the lid instead of the lower corner? Dame reason. We do this kind of marketing at work too as it just works.

I'm sure people won't even need to look at the Samsung name on the back to know that is the SGS3, The ugly speaker placement will do that job easily enough.

The front looks nice but my god the back looks so horrible. I think the SGS2 back with the extended battery cover looks 1000x better. Same goes for the one-x too the nipple camera looks turd.

So glad I've still got another year these phones coming out this year look pants.

I do 'get it', but unfortunately it's to the detriment of the back of the phone. :(

It could be just slightly larger. The camera ring on the X looks really naff.

Indeed. I didn't mind the camera ring at first but it's rather ugly (saved by the rest of the phone looking good :p) and the bottom edge of it rests on whatever surface you put it on so will probably end up being scratched if you aren't careful with it. The silver material that is, not the lens itself.

The One S is a lot better for this.

Only when viewed on it's own face down on a surface, which isn't often :p

True, but I do appreciate a nicely designed and good feeling piece of hardware.

Another thought:

Won't the camera being flush to the back muffle the speaker a bit?

It's a bit meh to me. There's nothing running on my S2 that it can't handle so the quad core seems a little wasteful at this moment in time, and the bump in screen size isn't enough to justify an upgrade for me. I'm at one of those weird stages in life where there's new tech and I don't want it. Slightly concerned about myself!

Oh, and it's hideous. I can see myself running back to HTC when my contract is up. Or even, dare I say, to Apple if they increase the iPhone's screen size and make some changes to iOS.

So people look at the back of the phone and think, "what an ugly phone made by Samsung". Clever.;)

Awesome tweet - "NatureUX TouchWiz" = Every time I tap my screen, it sounds like the last few milliseconds of my morning wee, when i dribble a bit.

I'm mostly interested to see if Samsung's new AllCast Share with hub (is this supplied with the phone?) is any good. By the looks of the vids, it looks to me like it's trying to be Samsung's answer to Airplay. However, I noticed what looks like a huge flaw. It appeared to only mirror the phone screen. So in effect it's AirPlay Mirroring but not AirPlay for video / audio. You can't, for example, send a video to your TV via the phone and then close the video on the phone, do some other stuff, and still have the video streaming on the TV.

It also seems unlikely that Android apps could use this feature going forward, such as with the iPlayer etc, like with AirPlay as the tech is Samsung owned and not Android specific.

What worries me is that this sort of move by Samsung will seriously fragment Android further than it already is. You'll get Samsung specific apps supporting AllCast Sharing.
