hey guys, so looking at doing an upgrade to my rig, it would obviously involve me flogging my 2500k if it was for a new cpu - but id buy the new one first then sell my 2500k. is it worth the upgrade to either of these or should i just get an ssd (i currently dont have one)?
finally, whats peoples experiences with asus rma? need to return my sabertooth p67 because of a dead memory slot.
thanks!

I would consider flogging the replacement mobo off. The "new" one would be more desirable than a used one on the market if you think about what you would rather buy secondhand.

Going to ivybridge isn't going to be a massive improvement. If you changed to the Z77 mobo you could still OC your SB i5K but have quick sync support through the IGP as well as lucid MVP (improved GPU performance). Depends if the features offered are of interest to you really fella.

2500K to 3570K not worth it in my opinion unless you're possibly going to be using the HD4000 GPU for something.

2500K to 3770K not worth it unless you can make use of hyperthreading. And even then a 2600K/2700K may be a better purchase depending on the pricing at the time.

See if you can get OcUK to deal with your RMA (assuming the motherboard was bought from them).

Asus have a poor reputation so it might be easier to get OcUK to sort it.

Ask for a Z77 motherboard as a replacement ;)

it was purchased from a friend, who is an avid user of OCUK. not sure if it was from here, but i know he has the receipt/has access to it online as he will know where he got it from. im going to rma it through him you see. Im waiting for a reply from him as to when I can go round and sort it out. as i say its running fine with 6gb dominators in, only reason i noticed is because i bought an extra 4gb to my current 4gb and one of the slots was just nackered, tried everything to get it working.

what do you think the chances are of me actually getting a z77 sabertooth if they do replace? if it goes through OCUK obviously?
thanks :D id be chufted if i got z77. remember though, the sabertooth p67 has support for ivy thanks to latest bios :)

You can ask but I think you would be lucky to get a z77. You might have more luck getting a z68 but these have access to the IGP which your mobo doesn't have so if they can supply a similar same socket overclocking mobo to you that's all they need supply :(

Did you try loosening the pump/cooling block of the H80 slightly to see if it was affecting the RAM slot?

i didnt, ill get my dad to try that tomorrow. suppose its worth a try, wont hurt. tbh i really do think its nackered, my mate said hed had the slot stop working before, but he reseated and cleaned the gpu slots and did the same with the ram n it worked again. price i got it for was a steal so risked it. plus, its covered on warranty. im not too bothered about having to wait due to the rma either, because i have a laptop to get by with.
thanks :)

to be honest, im happy with the board, so a new p67 would do me fine. just if given the opportunity to get a newer one id take it. ill try my luck anyways, ill just say "well i paid a lot of money for this board, the z77 board is of the same value, would i be entitled to get that as a replacement?" :L
did they even do a z68 sabertooth? id imagine id only get a like for like board would i not? so id only get a sabertooth (whether it be p67 or z77)?
