I'm looking at getting a new soundcard to replace my onboard sound. I have a humongous GTX580 gfx card so clearance might be a problem. I am looking at something like the Asus DX or D2X. I have read somewhere about some cards not using the front panel mounts. Can anyone advise which cards will let me use the front headphone/mic sockets?

The only Xonar's that don't have a front audio header are the D2 and D2X. The DX is a very good card, if that's what you are considering getting.

Xonar Essence STX has a front panel header :)

Do not buy a high end soundcard then trash your output signal by using Front Panel.

PLEASE.

If you are using FP buy something cheap that supports it.

Get the xonar STX OP.

I have 2 xonar STX's in soundcard sli and when listening through the front audio ports my 128kbit MP3's just sound absolutely epic!
