I have just ordered myself the 3770K ivy, 8GB ram, corsair H100 and ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe Gen3 motherboard.

I have been looking at several reviews all over the place on the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard Gen3 and one of the features that look outstanding is the "Auto Tuning" feature.

But........even though I am not a total tech head nerd, lol, but not stupid either, they dont seem to state that the auto tuning feature is software based (i.e - running in the op), but they dont seem to say its part of the bios either.

I am confused, can someone please try and explain to me ? ;)

I have been into clocking for years but last time I clocked my system and got it stable was 3 years ago, so its been a very very long time, so I am very rusty.

thanks for any help in advance :) ;)

They show the feature off here -

Thanks mate, thats actually the video I watched that showed me auto tuning believe it or not, lol.

Ive not had anything to do with asus mobo's for mega years now and to me that video still didnt tell me where "auto tuning" actually lives as I described in my first post.

I have since then spoke to someone else who said that it is bios based, so is that meaning its basically a very good and lazy quick way of clocking from windows but its actually adjusting the bios ?

I dont know, I tried to search to find out but cant find out my answer.;)

I think its just software that changes the bios for you, rather than the old skool manual method.
He mentions in this vid its changing the Uefi

dont use auto :) doing it manually is better

But why, from that review video the function looks amazing and too be honest I have grown over the years a bit tired of tweaking all the bios settings manually ?

Whats the point if this really does work as good as they show it working ?

I dont know, I havent owned an asus board in many many years, so I dont know.

I do know that with older motherboards of different brands it used to be that using the auto option would always overvolt etc etc, but from what I seen in that video review posted further up the page (that I had seen before, but thanks for it anyway), the "auto tuning" function looks amazing, but as I say, I could be wrong and I am open to any comments anyone makes just the same as I appreciated yours and also came back asking you "why" ? ;)

anyone see any disadvantage in using auto tuning then ?

I have watched a few videos and read some stuff on it and I cant see anything that would be a disadvantage, thats all I am trying to find out if anyone knows ? thanks :);)

The voltages are meant to come out on the high side, which will lead to high temps and potential issues with longevity. However, it should just be a case of manually lowering the voltage yourself.

I must admit that when I first heard about it I was impressed. Even if it only gets you in the rough ball park that's still better than most, particularly when you're talking about proper overclocks and not just the overly safe presets that most use.

The latest version of the Asus software is said to have improved in terms of use of higher voltages.

I want to use this feature, but I also want to use Windows 8 Release Preview next month and I recall reading that Asus AI Suite II does not work with Windows 8 at the moment.

Do Asus have any Windows 8 beta drivers/utilities out yet?

Hmm, interesting info there guys, thanks.

What if its a motherboard bundle that comes pre-clocked, is it better just to use the already set pre-clock or better to use the auto tuning to see if it goes higher ? I understand that messing with the pre-clocked bios will invalidate the warranty of the overclock but thats ok.

Couldn't this all be a receipe for disaster now though? Like if voltages can be controlled via the O/S, then surely someone could muster up a virus that could potentially fry your equipment !

I thought auto tuning was done via the operating system but is actually in the bios though, no ?

Well you can control the bios through the o/s. Beforehand the bios was out of bounds unless you were actually at the machine.. Through the O/S, then its a lot easier for someone to manipulate.

Thats gotta be a big bonus then I would say, dont you think ?

and then even tweak the voltages down a bit too if it seems they are slightly high and making things a bit hotter etc, sounds good to me.

And all this doesnt require any software running in the background or anything as far as I am aware, correct ? if so it sounds excellent, well I think so anyway, maybe I am just getting old though, lol :D
