hi Chaps,

has any one got any tips for buying and office chair for work and gaming?

This one looks pretty stylish and comfortable:

But comes out at £60 after VAT.

But I don't know whether to just buy something like this and save money:

£18.

Would it make any difference? Or any brands you guys would reccommend?
(I'm assuming these links are ok because OCUK dosen't stock office furniture)

Biggest tip is to go out and sit on a few, you don't want to to skimping out on a chair imo considering the length of time you're going to be in it. I'd head over to staples and the likes and give all them chairs a testing.

Thats what i did when i was looking for a chair. Staples is great for testing chairs. Id look to pay about £30-£50 though.

Trying out chairs is a pointless waste of time, apart from the aesthetics of them. The only merit in it is that you'll get so fed up with the exercise you'll just buy one to finish it.

When I got my rather expensive chair at work it didn't feel comfortable. The guy from the company who sold it to my company came out and went through all the proper adjustments (none of which I'd be able to do myself) and adjusted the chair to the right ergonomic position. It still wasn't comfortable. My back problems however have gone, I've gotten used to it and the chair is still as new 4 years later. I understand all the various different controls on the chair but I haven't the faintest idea why they need to be in specific positions and what the absolute best sitting position is. If I was to go to a showroom and buy a chair I wouldn't have bought that one. I have no idea about durability, I have no idea how to properly set them up.

those kinda argos chairs are not very comfy at all. Like someone else said your looking at the £50 leather chairs if you want a good one

[default chair recommendation]
the staples kashmir microfibre is sooooooo comfy, totally worth the £120 (£100+VAT)

Also, The Halk could not be more wrong if he tried. chairs are a personal thing and what i find comfy you could find incredibly uncomfy and vice versa. you really want to go round several shops and sit in all the chairs you can find. since, after your bed, it will probably be the place you spend the most time you really dont want to skimp on it

*edit*
here's the OcUK thread on the staples Kashmir: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=21669980

If you are going to be sitting for several hours get a 24hr chair (one rated to be comfortable for long time period)

Cost probably about 150+

Brill, thanks for the suggestions :)

That kashmir sounds the best bet. Although I didnt plan on spending that much. I thing going chair shopping is probably the way to go!

I think I got an executive leather, from staples. Somewhere around about £100...

Don't get a cheap one, the landlords provided us a cheap faux leather one, and sitting in my chair as much as I do, whilst its comfy, the 'leather' is already worn in about 8 months of good usage...

I think you've missed my point. There's no way to tell what will be comfortable to sit on for several hours, and certainly no way to tell what's going to feel comfortable when you stand up after sitting for hours.

If I was to pick a chair that was comfortable rather than properly supportive it may feel comfortable for a few minutes, but not in the long run.

Chairs, mice, keyboards and monitors. The things people spend the most time sat in, or sat at. Yet with the exception of the monitors most people skimp and save on them. Get a good chair not a cheap Staples one.

Oh and don't get me started on gaming keyboards. You could buy a proper keyboard for the price they charge for LED festooned ****.
