Sorry but for me a bigger control pad where I have to look away from the screen to do simple stuff that was much easier to do on the main screen...is not innovation.
You don't have to look at the tablet screen. I guess simple actions map to buttons would behave in the same manor as any regular controller.
Now, when I think of the tablet controller, im thinking:
Formula F1 : the tablet is used as the steering wheel. The tablet display displays the steering wheel, and all the steering wheel controls. Just like a real one does. Also, can be used to display race data.
RTS : the tablet screen could be used as an extended UI. With the pen used like a mouse to select and command the units on the big screen. Just like C&C.
Multi-player fun : Say that you are playing with friends. Your friends with Wii controllers can play against you (you have the tablet pad). You get the advantage of a unique view to aid you. Whilst you friends can only see whats on the big screen. Assist your friends using the tablet to control the game world (as in the video).
Battlefield 3 : You see the main tank view on the big screen. Hold the tablet controller up, and it becomes the turret view screen, independent of the main big screen view. You can still control the tank from the tablet, whilst aiming the gun else where. Likewise, the flying missions could have the main view on the big screen and the tablet could be used for the ground target laser view for bombing runs.
Not forgetting that the tablet can be used for playing games, when the big telly is out of use.
Its quite easy to see how this tablet could be used to enhance and introduce new game play ideas.
