palit gtx 680 2gb sli or 4gb sli Jetstreams?

Hi,new to the forum.
Confused, so all help and input appreciated.
Just finishing off new rig but can't decide on set up for 3D surround gaming.
Should I go sli 2gb cards or sli 4gb,can't find any decent benchmarks to aide decision, I don't want the chance of 2 x 4gb to slip by but at the same time don't spend any more than I need to.Would like FPS on 3 screens around 100 so to get 50ish in 3D, thanks in advance for any help/advise

These will be used with the following
RIVE mobo/i7 3930k (trying for 4.5 at less than 1.3v)many a blue screen so far.
H100 trying top keep temps down, Corsair TX850.
Playing on 3 x BenQ XL2420T's 120hz.

Any and all advise welcome,cheers

Tnanks Clairvoyant, I believe the 690 isn't strong enough for 3D surround as if halves the frame rate because of the lack of Vram.
Problem is the cards are just too new to make a informed/benchmarked choice.I take on board what your saying,so it may be wise too wait a little longer as too make the right choice . thanks for your advise

Hi pychodil, that was my reasoning behind posting this question.Trying to future proof as best possible with limited info. appreciate your input

Well IMO if you will be playing at that Res for the next couple of years and don't intend upgrading in that time, then 2gb isn't enough. Undlfortunately you need to pay the premium for the 4gb cards or go for the 79xx cards which have 3gb ram. I think you will need 2 of either at that resolution though. Nice setup btw :-)

thanks,Quite pleased the way its turning out for a first build(honest)
You know the saying 'a fool and his money etc'. Joking aside, your right .Vram is going to be the deciding factor in this setup. It's like i've gone so far, why cut corners now. Kids are dying for it to be finally finished as I swore to the better half its for the family to use.(if they can get me off it)

I've got it running soso with the 680 2gb,its just that i have to turn everything down to get the FPS up to a playable rate,BF3 39 fps,crysis2 32 fps and Batman no point for that game on surround it just lags to hell.

That's not how it works. If your card runs out of VRAM your game will drop to single digit FPS while it streams in data from the pagefile or wherever. It'll become extremely stuttery in general gameplay as well to be point of being unplayable.

2GB is fine for today's games in surround but there's always the nagging doubt about the future which is why if you can afford it, 4GB is a good option and it future proofs an SLI upgrade at a later date.

As above, if you want AA at that resolution you're going to need to go SLI as standard but not due to VRAM - due to the GPU limitations.

I thought because of 3D, the card has to draw the image twice, hence halving fps. So I need a fps of about 80 in 2D surround to enjoy 3D surround, therefore the reasoning of more vram required for better fps in 3D. Sorry if this sounds like i'm doubting you, just gleaning info from more knowledgeable people like yourself so as to make the best choice, thanks for taking the time to post

what settings did you manage on BF3?

ive got 2 x GTX470's and get 30-40fps on medium settings @5760 x 1200

i was considering an upgrade to a 680
