ok im looking at 2 of these cards not had exp with graphics cards before

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-149-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711

so would i be able to run 6 21.5" monitors of these cards and have it in split screen mode so i can just drag an item onto a monitor and full screen it on that monitor.

i will only be doing basic non graphics intense things on my comp such as word prepossessing and data analysis so using exel and other programs like that on there.

will these cards be ok and will i need to cross fire them or should i do this anyway.

or will i need a better card than this as i dont wnt a realy poor image quality witch will end up giving me headakes after an hour

That card is nowhere near enough. You'll need at least two cards that are capable of running 3 monitors, and it's not going to be cheap. Why in the hell do you need 6 monitors? ._.

All cards will have the same image quality in desktop modes. More money does not buy you better IQ.

What motherboard do you have? You can run 3 x 2 Display Output cards for example as long as you have enough PCI-E/PCI slots. What inputs will your monitors accept?

Simply not true - See above. He is not gaming, he does not need Eyefinity/Surround support.

ya i have a gigabit Z68XP-UD3P with two PCI-E running at x8 so im just looking for a cheap set of 2 cards to run six monitors

6 - same as above or music :)

Hi there, That's a nice board you have there - as you say since it has two x16 PCIE slots then two cards (each able to handle three monitors) is the best option.

May I ask what make and model number monitors you have or plan to get? Do they have a displayport input?

The cheapest option (if you can find a supplier) is to find two HD 5450 or HD 6450 cards which also have a displayport output. This option will a pair of active Displayport to DVI adapters (assuming your monitors don't have native displayport inputs). Though this option may also require you use two monitor on an analogue VGA connection.

A slightly more expensive option is to get two slightly more expensive cards (like this card - or this passive card) - but this option means that both of the non-Displayport connections are digital, not VGA. Again, with this option you will need a pair of active displayport adapters if non of your monitors are displayport.

Finally, you could go for a single higher-end card (like this one) that supports four monitor (using two displayport connections - and two active adapters if needed) and then one of the low-end cards like this one to achieve the total of six monitors.

so if i were to get 2 of these i could use 6 monitors that have only vga imput

Could you remove that link, as it is against the forum rules. Perhaps replace it with the product code (VX5450 1GBK3-HV2).

As for that graphics card, it only has HDMI, DVI and VGA outputs. With AMD cards they can only output to a maximum of two displays using the native DVI/HDMI/VGA outputs - to output to three monitors a card needs to use one displayport output. Since that VTX 5450 card doesn't have any displayport outputs then it can only support up to two monitors.

There are HD 5450 and HD 6450 cards that do have a displayport output - but these tend to be either expensive or rare. Also they all seem to be setup with a DVI output, Displayport output and a VGA output - so with these cards you will need to run one monitor off an analogue VGA video connection. VGA isn't exactly bad - but it often doesn't seem quite as sharp as a digital video connection like DVI, HDMI or displayport. Hence why if you are going down this route you may want to go with a pair of cards that support dual-digital display output (like HDMI + DVI) as well as a displayport output - or a single high end card (like that HD 6850 with 2xDVI, 1x HDMI and 2x mini displayport) and a low end card with two digital outputs (DVI + HDMI).

I take it there are no eyefinity 6 cards going cheap enough in the 2nd hand circles?

Check the bay - ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition 2 GB Graphics Card going cheap ATM, if not I've seen 6870s in the £240 range

Edit: Would 5 be enough? Here - with that card you've still got one free slot and could add in any other pci-e to get up to 7 or 8 monitors!
