Hi,

Posting this is a sign I'm now officially middle aged

I'm married and have 3 kids and am trying to keep the grocery bill under control. I've found shopping online helps me keep to what we need for the week (some fruit, milk and bread top up mid week needed though) rather than doing the aisle walk buying loads of bits we either did not need or I felt my be useful / tasty without planning the meals. What I've started to notice is the price on the receipt that they hand over at delivery time does not match whats on the palm pad that I need to sign to acknowledge delivery.
This has happened a few times now with the differences ranging between £2 - £10 with no explanation from the driver and no clue on the receipt which shows the lower price. Todays receipt/palm pad difference was £1.79 which matches exactly the e-vouchers they give you for their price guarantee, the printed receipt shows the deduction the palm pad shows the higher price. I've rang and spoke to the customer services people and have got either a really confusing nonsense explanation or sorry we dont know have some refund.

Using their webpages 'contact us' I sent a message asking whats happening, I don't want to have to ring up each week and feel the prices should match at the time of delivery, I also pointed out that the difference this week appears to be their price guarantee voucher. The response I got was rubbish, basically you pay the price for the goods value on the day of delivery (I'm ok with this and understand that) what really concerns me is that the receipt they're sending will have no bearing on what the price you finally pay, the final price is on the palm pad. I've written back asking what would happen if the bill on the palm pad was £20 more on a £100 shop due to deals ending but not having a receipt to show where the price increase is. I've also asked them to respond to my original question about the exact amount matching their e-voucher.

Anyhow rant over, thanks for reading and flame away, will probably shop at tescos or sainsburys anyhow just don't like feeling like I'm being mugged.

Rant on twitter and/or other social networking websites. Guaranteed you will get a response and refunded. There is a dedicated team of people monitoring social networking. News of poor service spreads fast on twitter and they are quick to resolve it

Personally I use Tesco online as the site just seems easier to use and has better layout

I've used Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's, and I found Tesco is the best. I order through Mysupermarket but I also check the expiry date on offers that I take.

Tesco won't charge you extra for substitutions, while Asda and Sainsbury's I think do.

I have never seen a price on their little signy thing. Tesco and Sainsbury's doesn't have it, and for Asda I just signed a bit of paper.

I've never thought to check what I was being charged against what the receipt says... hope I didn't get scammed!

I'm an ASDA homeshopping driver.

We take your money before we even set out for the day. All sales have to processed before we can download the details to our palm. Ignore what it says on the palm, there are numerous reasons why it can be different including just buttons being pressed in our pockets.

You will be paying what the receipt says, as that is what goes through the till in the home shopping department. If you have any refunds, they'll be processed by a manager as soon as possible.

Any other problems? I had a woman the other day ranting at me because some of her veg was going out of date in 2 days and we should be expected to route around for long dated stuff..

Wrong again. With ASDA, you'll always pay the lowest possible price. If you ordered a 500g piece of cheese for £1, and we gave you a 750g piece of cheese which costs £1.50 then you'd pay the £1. If we gave you a 250g piece of cheese that cost 50p, then you'd pay the 50p. Says it all at the top of the receipt.

Are you sure you save money by shopping online?
You miss out on all the discount stuff that you might not need that day but will do soon.

Ah, that makes more sense. The receipt would be the point at which they charged us... I have always checked that.

Am I right about substitutions Alex? You do charge the difference (although we can say no thanks)?

And why do you never have the jalepeno cheddar topper thing for my nachos when I order it :( WAAAAAAH!

That's the downside... although most times I don't grab that stuff as it's usually their own brand special range, which across all 3 supermarkets isn't that good.

My dad is murder for buying expensive bread with 1 day life and 30p taken off it. You go to his house and there's always a nearly stale loaf.... he'd be better buying cheaper bread with 5 days life, but he can't resist a yellow sticker :)

You do, however, always get the 3 for 2 offers right, sometimes in a shop you don't. You can also more easily tell what pack size is better value. I use mysupermarket and it warns me if I'm missing an offer or if it'd be cheaper on a different pack size.

The old bloke who sometimes delivers the shopping (nice chap) took the 10 empty crates he'd delivered the shopping in, closed the van doors and drove off leaving the crates in the middle of the road with me chasing him up the road draggint the crates, took them 4 days to come get the crates.

Is there a special sign / hand shake or a cheeky smile I can do to get more goodtimes on the shopping lottery. Is always nice to get an unexpected bonus, when I do I ring up to let them know and they always say keep it.

Read above your post, I addressed it in my original reply. I'll bring up the jalapeño cheddar topper thing with my store manager at the earliest convenience, fear not! ;)

Are you asking a question? Pretty stupid to be leaving the crates out. His wife probably left him or something. ;)

Ah, I missed the second part of it. That's actually a big thing for me... and it means I'll order from Asda again - not sure why I thought it was Tesco only, but glad to be wrong.

Personally i save a lot. Last shop i did at tesco i purchased 5 x 410gram packs of diced chicken breast for £2.20 each. Thats about £5 per kilo. Along with 2 x 4 packs of tuna for £3.50 each.

With deliver it came to £21

If i buy chicken in my sainsburys its more like £12 a kilo

Fruit, veg and other bits i just buy as and when i need them

I used most of the main supermarket online services, but found Ocado to be the best.
They are processed from a warehouse, and not a supermarket.
If there are any issues, you can let the driver know, who will update his palm.
They will process the charges on the night of the delivery, so you only get charged the final total minus any issues (which are rare btw)

Tesco's the best.

I've always found Asda to be **** in general.

Pffft Tesco are horrible , the stores are dirty , the management are idiots and the staff get treat like slaves . Always find asda loads cheaper too these days

Tescos golden years are over and they're in rapid decline IMO. Used to go there for everything but now i avoid whenever possible

Asda have overcharged me a few times, say i placed my order on Sunday night for delivery Wednesday and an item on offer has now expired back to full price then the full price has been charged on the Wednesday morning when it has been picked.

The drivers aren't the problem with asda online shopping, it's the useless pickers that can't be assed looking for stuff on the shelves. Muppets.

Too right they should, used to use Asda for online shop but so many times half the food was out of date in a day or two, off course the delivery driver does not enjoy hanging around while you go through all the bags to hand back the stuff with limited life left.

I use Tesco now.

If ordering groceries I'd expect to be recieving them with a reasonable use by date.

Marks and Spencer's are bad at getting the right prices in store. Most weeks the advertised promotions do not through the till as so. But they make Percy pigs so I forgive them.

Isn't this just a tactic of the supermarkets to get rid of the stuff that people wouldn't buy because of the short date, without putting it in reduced to clear?

When I ordered online from Tesco they would always deliver stuff with dates of only a couple of days when the stuff on the shelves would normally last a week or two. If it had been one or two items I wouldn't mind but often it was 50% of the order, its one of the reasons I stopped buying online.

Half a kilo of cheese for £1? And the rest! Quick quick Sainsbury's and Tesco, do your price-match shiznit! Don't think I've seen cheese priced that cheap in my lifetime.
