Who offers best FTTC

I have placed an order for BT infinity but not sure if i made the right choice, paying £20 for first 3 months, then £26. I use a lot of torrents and dont like the idea of being throttled coming from BE and no throttle at all. Who offers the best fibre at the moment in terms of usage and throttling?

When you say throttle, for instance they say i can get 62mb download, so would they throttle me down to half a mb? or is it something more like 10mb? Just want to know how bad it is i can live with 500kbps-1mbps if they throttle down to that sort of download speed

Less than 100KB/s in some cases. The upstream throttling is particularly bad.

I haven't been throttled once in 2 months or so.

its all about your network and the area you live , how busy things get as to when and where they throttle

All on their website. So only bittorrent (and other p2p tech) gets throttled. Nothing else is throttled. Any other slowdowns are due to technical problems or congestion.

Well you can just use a scheduler instead of paying for a VPN. I don't think many people download time critical stuff via bittorrent.

i,m not 100% sure but i think they use there own equipment in the exchanges maybe someone else will add to this

Yes and No.

From your house to your local cabinet, then from the cab to the exchange is all BTO (openreach), copper/fibre. Hence why BTO come to install and not a sky engineer.

Sky use there own equipment once the line is at the exchange, and they use there own backhaul (main line) from exchanges to their base for broadband (think its in london somewhere). No idea if they physically own that backhaul or if it is long term leased from other companies though.

The only thing with me is I don't want to change my phone number and sky make you do that. So SKY have a presence at my local exchange does this mean I can get FTTC off them? I have no idea with FTTC as I'm used to the way adsl works!
