I think the time has come to fulfill one of my dreams of owning a proper old school Merc.

I wasn't too fussed over between the 124/126 and R107 but now that I have my E39 it makes sense to get the R107 as it's the shape I have always loved.

Engine wise I am pretty flexible, I am looking at the 500sl but also the 380sl etc.

Essentially I am just looking for the best nick possible. Budgeting the lower end of the market.

Anything apart from the obvious rot etc to be looking for. Forums tend to be a bit thin on the R107 sides of things....

Also this is something I want, not looking for alternative cars or anything :p

A picture for pleasure!

lovely, i've always liked these though they're a bit before my time - what kind of cash is involved in getting a reasonable one?

I've been looking at these a fair bit, I think it could be some super depreciationless motoring. Good luck and I look forward to seeing the outcome.

My colleague has one. Pay the most you can. Anything poor or needing work will be costly and depressing to own. Speak to The SL Shop if you want more guidance, they know their stuff. Was down there last week, plenty out front being worked on - most absolute buckets.

They hide their rot very well.

£5k for a 26 year old car...that well...looks old?

Yes I went there!!!

LOL I HEAR THAT SOME EVEN OLDER CARS COST EVEN MORE LOLOLOLOLOL

The other day I saw an old Jaguar for like £60,000 you could buy a new Jaguar for that, LOLOLOLOL

Well, you are responsible for creating a legion of 3+ years-in-the-past Fox wannabes, so it's to be expected TBH.:p

The R107 is starting to look better and better with age IMO. Good luck finding something that's not a total shed pepsilol.

Really?? It was an ace car from the start

I'm not disputing that, but it's grown on me particularly in the last 5 or so years. Probably something to do with my age. I was initially going to compare the R107 with the Jag XJS, but there's no comparison. The R107 looks much nicer to me.
