Camping Newbies - Sky TV?

Go camping, take Sky? WHAT!

Go to the pub if you want to watch some sport, take a small dvd player if you want to chill and watch a movie.

Enjoy what camping is meant to be about. The outdoors!

This tbh. He's had 2 posts in this thread modded for swearies so far :-)

I've camped loads. Inventory should include a few battery-operated electricals such as a radio, MP3 player and torches. Have phones by all means, for finding each other if lost etc, and of course for playing the obligatory Angry Birds :p
 
So based on the power requirements for the receiver and the TV, how long will you get into a weeks camping before running out of power? Presumably you will have the car next to the tent (assuming you are not carrying a TV, satellite dish and receiver plus car battery in your backpack) so could top it up a little, but not too often or you will flatten the car battery and won't be able to start the car. Seems like a lot of hassle, and hassle that fundamentally ruins the essence of camping to be honest.

Oh yes, I love the tapwater up there. Can't explain the flavour but it is the first thing I do when I get to my relatives house in Scotland - get a large glass of cold tapwater!

I think the OP was stating that he is staying and has previously stayed in a 'camp' site which has electrical points at each berth. Those are largely provided for Caravans, which is why I said that if you are going somewhere and going to rely on so much electrical comforts, why not just stay in a Caravan instead? Especially given that any electrical items you do take will need to be locked up into your car every time you want to do something... total chore.

If you posted in 'Home Cinema & Hi-Fi' then you might have got a technical reply from me, but you didn't, so you got an opinion. Not my fault if you fail to understand the universally understood concept of camping (countryside, away from distractions, washing under a tap if you are lucky).

OK, maybe you didn't go to Scouts or cooked baked potatoes under the fire, but that doesn't mean that other people on the campsite are not going to look at you with your 50" TV, Sky box and hair straighteners and think 'WTF?'.
It's times like this that people don't really need to be told where they can get a Mac10, they need people suggesting they rethink the idea.

I can't wait to take my Grandson camping so I can pass on all the stuff about making fire, using a map and compass, stars and sun.
Completely archaic knowledge in a modern world, but somehow that is the whole point.
 
At Silverstone camping we see some great things coming out of the back of transit's 3 seater settee's and tv's etc with sky dishes, each to their own, we sit on our deck chairs with a battery radio if need be, the mrs does however have hair straighteners and hair dryer that work from the cig socket in car :D

Camping is what you want from it.
 
Lots of sites do wifi these days.

Quids in with that if you have sky/active/go.

Personaly im a small radio guy, but in recent years iv'e swaped out the boil in the bag type food for taking the kitchen sink,and doing the big eat, so i see where you're coming from:)
