***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I've had a black iPhone for 4 years so was always going to get a white phone regardless. Most people who I've asked which colour is better have gone for the white and have no allegiance towards Android or Apple.

I prefer the camera ring on the grey X (it's not black! :p) but that's all.

I don't think you're going to get that seamless screen effect on the S3 though, perhaps in darker lighting conditions you might.

Compromises have to be made in order to reap the benefits of an epic 4.8" AMOLED display!

That video looked nice. Not sure why people hate TW as it seemed to work well. I have 2 questions though that ppl might be able to answer:

1. Is the phone dialler like HTC Sense i.e. Can I just type a name using the numbers and a list will come up with the contacts matching the name?

2. Does the browser come with text reflow?

1: Yes, T9 search is available in Samsung's dialler. On the S2 it works fine but is missing some features from other diallers that have T9 as well like loading the contact card of a person when you click on the T9 searched entry, instead it just lists the saved numbers and you can call or message it. That's why I use Dialer one.

2: Yes, all modern Android browsers do this.

:p

That's the worst thing about white phones in general, the screens stand out far too much when they are off. It's not a big deal for most people I imagine but it bugged me on the white iPhone 4.

One of the reasons I was so drawn to the white X is because it gets away with it by design. Smart!

This old picture I took shows what I mean:

For whatever reason the SGS3 is leaving me totally cold, even with those decent internals. Maybe it's the same gimmicky glossy plastic design as the Arc?
Samsung are defiantly going down the netbook road of style differentiation, meh guess it worked for them before.

I wonder what the battery will be like...

20-40% more than the GN (2 hours gaming, 30-60 mins web browsing) but you'll still get monster drain with lots of whites compared to the One XL.

I wouldn't say that just yet, the AMOLED array is different on the S3 compared to the S2/GN etc and if the early info is true (everything points to a big fat yes), more power efficient all round the phone by using faster/less hungry components so it evens out at the end f the day.

Ah I didn't have to get a micro sim cutter, managed to get one ordered via work.

Will need the holder for my S2 though, Ebay will sort that out.

What about the Tegra X, do you think the S3 will be a lot better, especially with heavy browsing?

I pretty sure the S3 will have longer battery life than the One x browsing. One X seems to be getting 3-4 hours screen time. My GN with the 2000mAh battery can do 4-5 hours.

It looks a lot nicer in the video if you watch him handling it than it does in the pictures, too.

I did, and it still looks pretty nasty IMO :p

Battery life will be better than the x (X seems to get just about get 3 hours 30 minutes or so at 30-40% brightness), but I can't see the battery life being exceptional when you have the eye tracking on (if that feature can even be turned off.....) and the wifi bonding enabled (if that can even be enabled and disabled as well....).

This is the area that I am most looking forward to hearing about, although only from users feedback and proper usage as the expert reviews are pretty poor and inaccurate especially gmsarenas test IMO.

I think with the eye tracking and wifi bonding turned on and screen brightness set to 30-40%, you will achieve about 3 hours and 45 minutes on screen time and with those both off (if possible) about 4-5 hours (average) at 30-40% brightness.

Touchwiz is great for certain areas, it has some very nice under the bonnet optimization and handy features. It is just the UI, colour scheme that puts many people off, granted it looks much better than the touchwiz version on the GS 2 currently, but still no where near sense V4 or stock ICS IMO.

Like getting yourself a note for an even more epic AMOLED display? or is the note not using the same type of screen? Thought this screen was just a smaller note, but with an uglier phone.

software [touchwiz] looks pretty bad imo, wishy washy and kind of dated compared to stock ICS

i think i might not bother now and just keep my nexus, cant really see what more this offers, would have to mess around with rooting etc and even tho i like it a little more than before it is still worse looking than my nexus imo

also those capacitive buttons, do not like!

Guys None of us can even guess the battrey life , why not wait till tests have been done ?lol.
First time this chipset and screen been used......

No, but you can make an informed guess based on the power usage of the technology at hand.

It is fun to guess :p :D

Plus it will be a while till we get the "jest" of how the battery is until the public get their hands on the device, so we might as well guess away! :p

Also we can get a rough idea pretty much of what it will be like considering there are similar mobiles out with similar screens etc. e.g. galaxy nexus, galaxy note (higher res. etc. though) and then the XL (it has the dual core krait S4, which is very power efficient) and the X.

AFAIK, there isn't anything that special about the screen, just a standard 720P 4.8" screen with a pentile matrix that has apparently been "tweaked" like the SAMOLED pentile screen on the HTC one S.

And if it is anything like what we know of the current phones regarding the camera then it is pretty certain that the eye tracking will kill battery life as it will be pretty much constantly focusing on your eyes and essentially always on.

It won't be anything ground breaking, will still need to charge once every night or 2, just like with every smartphone.

EDIT:

Well tbf it doesn't offer a huge amount over the GN just like the X/S etc.

Has a great screen with better software, better design.

Only areas, which will be better by a noticeable amount is the camera, battery probably (out of the box), lots more storage and much better hardware (but in real world usage, you won't really notice a huge difference, only in the willy waving benchmarks :p)
