Hi

I have recently been upgraded to the 100Mb service from 50Mb. I am connected to the Super Hub using TP Link 200Mb homeplugs however I am only seeing speeds of between 65 and 70Mb.

Is this down to the homeplugs? If so, what would be a good upgrade to see the full 100Mb.

Unfortunately I cannot use a wired connection at present to test.

Thanks

Speeds in the region of 65 - 70Mbps using AV200 powerlines is very good or even exceptional which logically suggests the mains wiring is in good condition. If these AV200 based speeds are accurate, then I would expect some improvement on this when using AV500 powerlines, perhaps 100Mbps +. The only way to find out is to buy a pair and try them out.

I got quite a big speed bump out of the 500MB Homeplugs, I can get the full 100mb at the other end of my house. Also might want to try the Homeplug in different socket. I had an existing network wire running through the wall of where my computer is to where my TV is. Used it for connecting my XBOX and Blu Ray directly into my router however decided to push another network wire through and try my Homeplug in the TV room. My speeds actually doubled throughout the house. The wiring is old and in some sockets the sockets aren't actually properly in a loop which is why I was losing speed.

I received my 500AV this morning following a upgrade from the 200AV plugs. I was confused as to why i was only achieving 50MB download despite being on the 100MB package. I will try out the download tonight using my new plugs :)

Great keep us posted! You can be the guinea pig before I buy mine!

I had 200mb home plugs and got roughly the same speeds as above, but after considering 500mb versions I went a different route which you may not have considered. I ran cat5e cable, but not the normal round stuff (my wife would have gone nuts seeing that around the skirting board) I bought a 10m pre made flat cat5e cable (costs ~£6), the flat stuff is only 1-2mm thick. I just lifted up the carpet, laid the cable under it and put the carpet back. The cable is thin enough that you cannot see or feel where it is once the carpets back down. The whole installation took 10 minutes and I can get gigabit speeds over the link.

Tried these last night and managed to download on a average speed of 11.5MB per second. It was fluctuating from 13 to 10mb so all in all i was happy with this. The only thing i have noticed is that the plugs are much bigger and it was a tight fit against the wall socket in my bedroom. There was just about enough clearance on the ethernet cable which i also had to bend a lot.

Great thanks for this, sounds much better.

Any chance you could post up a few Speed Tests?

Thanks

I tried last night and on the london ones i only managed to get 30MB. However, on the maidstone one i got 85mb. To be honest these speedtest are as useful as they claim, best way to find out is to download multiple files which i did using a download manager which gave me the reported speeds in my previous post.
