My first drive in the skipy at Brands i tried the base set but lose the rear of the car is this normal or is the base set no good ?

I joined a server and asked if anyone would share a set but no one did so gave up with it the car handled to bad to have fun with.

Well done spils, took your time pmsl, do 4 tt's in the radical so you get your c class, you don't want to race with the 4.0 d class incase you have a mare and go below 4.0 again...

Took me about 20 or so races to get from D to C I'm ok with that G I had got up to 3.89 within a day or so but lost it all as you no so had to work it up again.
I could have done it a lot quicker by just starting from the pits every race and holding back 20 seconds off everyone, but that would have learnt me nothing.

I think If I had fasttracked I'd have lost a lot of valuable Information I've gained by racing, learning what people do and how to safely race now "dam LFS had given me some bad habits". Watching the same mistakes happen in front of me time and time again. Thats also a good bit of info I make sure i dont do the same mistakes.

I got some advice from someone Saturday night that will stay with me through out the rest of my I-racing playing days.
"If you see someone fast come up behind you, don't be aggressive in the block, has there's a good chance both of you will end up wrecked. Let the faster guy past you may learn a thing or two, he may even drive off the road, normally taking some poor fellow with him."

I do that now and the amount of times I let the faster guy through and he just goes and drives into the back of someone else, either being aggressive in the pass or the slower guy over blocking, also I've improved my times picking up a few faster lines following the faster people.

Toother mx5 lovers drive the multiclass series instead of staying in the wild west.
Wish I'd spotted the Inchallenge cup thingy sooner seems a much better place to drive much bigger grids Multiclass series of mx5, Slowstice and the ford racer. Ill be doing a lot more of that this week as I like Jefferson lovley little track.

That sounds about right :p

Due to the limited selection of options for the skippy the baseline is usually there or thereabouts, the 'problem' with the car is twofold. Firstly although it's got wings they're just for show, there's no downforce so you have to rely on the mechanical grip which is never great. Secondly due to the rear engine placement it has almost all the weight over the rear wheels, this can and does act as a wonderful pendulum to swing you around :)

So, to combat the issues, first is nice and simple, just go slower into the corners, rather than having to maintain some speed to get the downforce it really is 'slow in, fast out', don't worry too much about eeking the last bit out of late braking, it takes a lot of skill to make this work consistently especially with the skippy, just concentrate on getting it nice and slow and powering out.

And now the second, and hardest, problem... The skippy is all about weight transfer, if you just slam on the anchors, loading up the front, and then turn in with the brakes still on you're going to spin as the rear just comes around on you, same with letting off the brakes, you've got to be smooth to let the weight settle. Not sure if you're doing it but most skippy drivers will left foot brake and most importantly will leave a good chunk of throttle trailing in the braking zones, this eases the balance of the car (and stops the rears from locking) and makes it far far easier to drive, although the base problem remains, so you need to make sure you're as smooth as possible.

It can teach you a hell of a lot about getting a car to do exactly what you want, as you can drive it in both understeer or oversteer depending how you manipulate the brake/throttle, and when you get it just right you're cornering with pretty much just those two as well, you get the initial turn in with a slight steering input and the rest is all pedals, it's great fun :)

Thanks skill i just jumped in it for a quick play and was suprised how tricky it is to drive seeing as its a rookie trainer car.

Ive been playing racing games since xz81 did 10 years of GPL and my normal Iracing drive is lotus Indy car HPD or Williams and always go well at Brands so it was a bit of a shock how tricky the little Skip is to drive.

Having no iracing is driving me a bit nutty especially when I have a day off :( Living in a shortterm rental that doesnt have a phoneline so I Bit the bullet and bought a 3 Dongle just so I can hotlap around for a bit. I wouldn't dare go into a race with it though.

My internet was off a few weeks back and I used my iphone's personal hotspot via USB to play online. Managed 2 races without any issues, my ping was about 150.

not a hope in hell im a running at LRP, what lame place to run the radicals...

peeps do not know what there doing its gunna be a disaster...

even in practice sessions its annoying as hell, i lost count of how many times my lap got ruined by some clown...

I might be without internet for a bit soon, which will be irritating, hopefully not for too long though or might have to resort to nicking the key to the office and racing there over the weekend :p

I'm quite liking LRP to drive in the radical, but traffic can be a little bit annoying, qually will be hugely important and I can only hope that the 30 minute races restrict the catching up with other drivers, either that or if/when I catch up with them I've got a big gap and can bide my time :p

yeah josh lapping is quite fun but other drivers are just plain daft round here, with such a short lap aswell you will be lapping somebody every lap.

its just gunna get right on my nerves so im gunna leave it...

my set is on the forum mate, but i dont think you will like it...it works for me...

Yeah, I saw you'd posted it, I'll give it a go before racing, need to try v4 of the Dietzel one as well, but fairly happy with the David Scott one, just the right balance of sliding for me at the moment, just wish I could get the last corner flat :p

um, yeah, thinking about it there's gonna be people in the 48/49's, and I can do mid-high 46's with race fuel, so call it 3 seconds per lap it's only gonna take 15 laps (of 39-40 laps total) before you start lapping people, I can see that getting old quickly :p

Definitely gonna give one race a go, but if it is as bad as you fear then that'll probably be it...

yeah sliding is the best way round my set is abit like that as its stiffish...

yeah mate and i wish you luck, dont forget the peeps who have bad starts and who have some offs you will be lapping peeps after a few laps a reckon...

and here I am.

Think I'm missing this week. Too many nightmares from being a rookie in the MX5 at Limerock, Plus I really do hate holding fast peeps up. With limerock the front pack(when comimg to lap you) are always so close together that it's a major problem letting everyone through with there not being that many clean places to do it.

Better safe than sorry me thinks

I'd love to know how SR is worked out. I did a Mazda cup race last night, started 5th and finished 2nd, no incursions at all and my SR went up by 25. A driver who finished 5th or 6th and had incursions improved his SR by 66.

Ok, SR 101 off the top of my head (all this, and more, in the sporting code... :p)

So, the value is a simply a nicer reflection of a 'corners per incident' count, so you do a lap of LRP and you get 7 corners and hopefully no new incidents added to your count.

I believe with Q and TT sessions (and warmups) you get a reduced incident count for the same corner count, but always been a bit fuzzy on that...

Different licence levels use a different range of corners, with the longest range being A class, so for rookie it might count your incidents for the last 1000 corners, for A class that might be 5000, I'm not sure the exact levels but that goes on to explain the next bit which relates to the somewhat odd increases/decreases sometimes. This is also why when you get promoted you generally take a hit, as more incidents are counted.

Say you do a clean race, say 100 corners, that will knock 100 corners off the count (the oldest first obviously) which can/will also knock any incidents from those 100 corners off the count as well. So if the 100 corners that are knocked off included 0 incidents then you won't get much/any rise, if they included 100 incidents you'll get a big rise in SR.

And finally, the bit that relates to the figures you've given are the boundaries, if you go over or under a boundary you get a bonus/hit of 0.4 SR, so if you're 3.99 and do enough to gain 0.01 then you'll get 0.41, conversely if you're 4.00 and do enough to lose 0.01 you'll lose 0.41, this is to ensure you don't constantly flip between whole numbers.

I think that's mostly right at least, the underlying system is hidden...

im really bad on thus okayama course :(

i think the brake peddle on the dfgt is letting me down as im scared to late brake, the pedal is so sensitive even the slightest movement is about half braking so its easy to get the juddering when u hit the brake to hard :( (its a pitty the brake pedal doesnt have much feel because the throttle pedal is really nice and its easy to get as much throttle as your trying to)
ill have to try and do the spring mod to it so its harder to press or something.
for okayama in mx5 :(
15 01:05.352
16 01:05.336
17 01:04.837
18 01:04.343 fastest lap
19 01:05.634
20 01:05.332
21 01:05.251
22 01:04.379
(my optimal from fastest sectors is something like 1:03.279 but i cant get anywhere near that over a full lap)
looking on youtube the fastest drivers are braking slightly in the corners to rotate the car but i cant because if i accidently press the pedal 1mm to much ill brake to hard and just spin.

i guess theres a reason load cell brake pedals are so popular.....
