In anticipation of a couple new games that I dont think my current rig would be able to cope with I am getting a few upgrades.

My current pc is about 6-7 years old, is
AMD 4000+
AMD 6800U
6GB Ram
General other bits,

Looking to purchase a few bits and possibly salvage some of the old PC, what do you reckon?

Hi,

The 2600k is old now ivy bridge is out, also the i7 is not really needed for gaming. You should not need hyperthreading which is the difference between the current gen i5 and i7. i7 has it and i5 does not.

Also what is your budget, and do you have a suitable PSU? or is it a whole pc you need? I assume its just gaming you are doing?

trying to keep it round the £700 mark,

I need to check on my old PSU but I think its round the 650W mark, I remember buying a decent one last time, think it cost me round £120

Its not just a gaming PC, its a general use PC also, some media viewing, some graphic work.

I see you sussed the basket linking :)

I'm not convinced you need the i7s hyperthreading. You really want to be looking at ivybridge rather than the sandybridge kit you have spec'd.

Ivybridge has a better IGP, it uses less power to run. It is also required for the PCI-Express 3 lane to function. The Z77 mobos have lucid MVP too which will boost GPU performance so worth going for that over the Z68 really.

My GPU is a lil more money but is clocked higher out of the box and has a better cooler fitted, so should be quieter and run cooler with the ability to overclock further than the cheaper 7850 you spec'd.

I wouldn't bother with the adapter plate, you could just use double sided sticky tape to secure it to your case.

I managed to include a good budget case and still be in budget. It has the ability to mount two 2.5 inch drives, has 4 120mm fans and has cable management. Not necessary but i don't know what case you have and you might want to upgrade it to get better cooling to help with overclocking the CPU.

Hope this helps, any questions or problem feel free to post back :)
