Hi, i have signed up to get your thoughts on the components i am thinking of buying for my first time build. Thank you for taking the time to read my post it is greatly appreciated. Specs below:

Asus 1GB GeForce GTX 560TI DirectCUII
Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor
Asus P8Z77-V PRO Motherboard (Socket 1155, 32GB DDR3 Support, ATX, Wifi, Intel Z77 Express, Network iControl, USB 3.0, SLI/CrossFireX Support)
Corsair CMPSU-750TXV2UK Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 High Performance 750W Power Supply
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit
BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black
Asus DRW-24B3ST SATA Internal 24X DVD±RW Drive
Akasa AK-CC7117EP01 K32 High Performance Intel Cooler for LGA775, LGA1156 and LGA1155

Ivybridge is out so buying sandybridge is pointless really. Ivybridge uses less power to run, has a better IGP and is clocked ever so slightly higher at stock.

Did you have a budget in mind? Then we can spec you something, using your OP as a guide for what you need.

Oh p.s welcome to the forum! :)

I have gone over budget but this is because i added a good sized SSD drive for the OS and a 2TB eco storage drive.

The mobo i have chosen is still SLI/Xfire capable. The PSU has enough juice to run 2 7850s if you wanted to at some point. If you will never dual card there are cheaper mobos available.

You don't want the 560ti, the AMD 7850 is the default midrange GPU choice at the mo. There are cheaper versions, I chose that one as it is clocked higher and will have a better cooler fitted.

Hope this helps, obviously you can make some changes to the storage options to bring the price down.

Any questions or problems when you come to build, feel free to ask

It's not just the clock speed if you look the coolers are very different. Your choice is cheaper as it has the reference design cooler. Yes you could OC your spec'd GPU but my choice will be quieter and cooler.

The CM 600W PSU i spec'd is modular. This means you only use the cables you need so less clutter in the case = better airflow and lower temps. Lower temps in the case will help when overclocking the CPU :)

The M4 is a better SSD and is only marginally more but also has a larger capacity. I would pay the lil more for the 2tb eco drive over a 1TB 7200rpm drive seeing as it's for storage and not to run the OS. Also your DVD drive is slower.

I appreciate that you are trying to adjust the spec to keep it in budget, i'm not "knocking it" just explaining the difference. And yours isnt the same "as above".....your mobo isn't SLI/Xfire capable ;) Gigabyte have their RMA based in the UK so I would have used this if SLI/Xfire wasn't wanted/needed.......

SLi/crossfire capable board is not needed. When/if the guy comes back and wants a GPU upgrade I highly highly doubt anyone will say get another 7850!!

SSD performance difference is not noticeable unless you run benchmarks all day.

If your PSU cables are hidden away then its not going to matter, the same as if you use a modular PSU and just have the cables hanging all over the place. You should have seen the mess my cousin made of his first build with PSU cables everywhere from his modular PSU. It is possible to have a clean tidy build with a non modular PSU, however I agree with you on getting a modular one.

I agree on the 2tb drive, but the DVD drive?!? Come on!!

I have changed the card to the gigabyte, still not sure it is worth the extra though..

Just noticed your edit regarding the gigabyte board, I would never recommend a gigabyte board myself as I had one before. Just google "gigabyte boot loop" to find out why :/

If there was a fault with the MSI board you could RMA it to OCuK anyway.

I wouldn't want to be populating all the RAM slots with that tall RAM and a aftermarket heatsink like that one;)

The SSD is awful!!!

So do OCuK and you are less likely to have a problem with the MSI board imho.

Also how is the SSD awful? How is the general user going to notice the difference between an agility 3 and an m4?

Perhaps you should search for OCZ SSD reliability threads;)

And my link above clearly shows the M4 is faster:D

I know, I've owned many SSD's. I had a vertex which was DOA and an M4 that suddenly decided to corrupt all files and then die. OCZ have gotten much better with reliability now.

But again how is the general user going to notice the speed difference that appears in benchmarks? They really won't.

I added a SLI mobo as that was what his original Z68 choice offered. I did edit in a GB mobo which doesn't SLI/Xfire but it's not a massive saving removing the option.

In regards to the SSD

To be fair you are changing your spec closer and closer to mine lol Oh and your RAM has "aggressive heatspreaders". We tend to suggest low profile RAM when using aftermarket heatsinks.

We have given plenty for the OP to consider :)

But why spec him something thats slower, less reliable when the price difference is only £6:p
