President Obama Endorses Gay Marriage

I believe anyone who is opposed to gay marriage is beyond reason, and this thread is showing it. I can't begin to think of common ground to start from to try and discuss it.

I don't think it's right.

I have no problem with people who are gay, but it's my view that you should not have same sex couples. Man + woman is the natural order of things as such (yes I know we can extropolate and get daft on this one), but society wouldn't survive if everyone was gay in any normal sense of the word.

You... don't...say...

If this opinion is literal, then i think we are fine, in fact i am more worried about the degeneration of quality of our children due to females having them later than they are supposed to.

Resulting in higher disease rates, intolerances, infection chances, mutations, allergies, defects, changing fertility (don't know about this one, i assume it would be affected though), mental instabilities and the list could go on for several more lines if i had cared about biology, however i did not.

Someone being gay, does not matter to me, they can still create a child if there was actually a disaster of that magnitude, if not in the normal sense, they can still donate their seed.

So you are glad that presidents cannot have opinions any more?

You want politicians to be spineless?

Interesting.

I don't think Presidents should say that gays shouldn't be allowed to get married. In the same way I don't think Presidents should say black people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

well you made a frankly insane comment about society surviving if everyone was gay, you already made the most extreme and stupid extrapolation so what diud you really expect?

Us all to go "my god he;s right if we all become gay tomorrow we'll be extinct we must do something about the gays!!"??

Slightly excessive even from you Mr. Tefal :p Of course we'd survive, there are ways and means.

My opinion is that I don't think it's right, yet I don't harbour any ill will towards someone who chooses this path as such.

Do you, from your angle?

numerous medical studies on brain structure and biochemistry and the testimony of thousands of gay men and well the testimony of billions of straight men?

Did you choose to be straight?

consciously decide at some point "you know i find both men and women attractive but i shall choose women for X reason" ?

If n ot you were born that way and it works the same for them.

Totally agree, he should represent his party and the people. If 99% of people wanted gay marriage to be in place, he'd be a complete idiot to not represent that.

So you think if gay marriage was legal it would encourage more people to be gay and thus wipe out the human race?

WOW!

I think that's good to see from President Obama, it's somewhat of a bold move given how controversial it is as a topic but at the same time the people most opposed to gay marriage probably weren't going to vote for him anyway.

It'll be interesting to see what effect, if any, it has on the fact that the majority of states in the Union ban gay marriage.

Oh you mean when I used to go to gay clubs in Birmingham, sleep over with them, and had a fair few gay buddies at uni and work... lol.

Since you maintain it's a choice, why didn't you get stuck in at the gay clubs then? Why would anyone choose to gay or straight, why wouldn't everybody be bi if it was a choice?

You might as well have gone to a steakhouse and said "No steak for me. I'm choosing not to like it."

So you are putting yourself at the extreme end of the debate and then blaming the other side for the lack of common ground?

Tactically excellent :)

I don't make a habit of reading up on sexual surveys, do you?

My wife has family members that struggled with being attracted to guys yet being married. That must have been a really terrible situation to be in.

Did I choose to be straight? I wasn't really in a position to chose I suppose, I was brought up in a culture that generally made no real reference to being gay, and whilst be called each other gay.. we didn't really have a proper concept of it as kids. It was generally accepted that a man is with a woman.

It's an interesting topic about born vs taught. I think it's a mixture of both, given how we are created.

Scougar, given the world's biggest problem right now is over-population, shouldn't homosexuality be welcomed?

Because your logic that is we were all gay we'd die out works both ways. If everyone throughout history was were straight the population would be much larger than it is now (and we'd have much bigger problems to boot).

It would be moronic to allow the majority to ban it ... Oh wait, right democracy is moronic.

If 99% of people want the death penalty back, do we get it back? Nope.

So selective democracy?

You can't pick and chose when you want it.
