My boy found a phone on the way home..

You need to go over there, take the phone off him, and take it to the police yourself.
If "that woman" kicks up a fuss, just report her to the police for being in possession of a stolen phone.

But definitely not something so personal like a mobile phone!

Return it for sure.
 
I found a phone in the toilets in my gym this week. Guess what i gave it back to the person, felt good:)
Couple years ago on holiday i found a phone on a beach, i phoned the mother on the phone. It belonged to her daughters and i told her what campsite i was staying at, so she got her phone back. I felt good about that too.
 
I have found several phones and returned every single one (in one instance I put the simcard in my phone to get access to the contacts and in the other I connected it to my pc using the phones smart suite to get access to the contacts) of them to the owner, I know exactly how gutted I would feel If I lost my phone and someone didnt at least make an effort to get it back to me.

It isnt hard to get the information out of a locked phone most of the time and its the right thing to do.

Pretty stupid question IMO. There's a big difference between a phone and a fiver, for a start you can't track a £5 note.

You can also hand in the cash to the police office who will give a receipt and if it's unclaimed give you it back....

Like anyone's going to go into a police station and say "Oh.. I think I dropped £20 somewhere last week.... I don't suppose anyones handed it in?"
