M5 has to go :-(

Just looking at things £20k seems to get you a very decent 6 Series Coupe, put the rest towards the BMW monthly warranty and surely your laughing?

Keeping the quality of your M5, with much better fuel costs, a lush looking newish coupe and no unexpected big bills.

But he wants a diesel, the only diesel is the 635d and they only came after the facelift. 20k is perhaps pushing it a bit for one with low enough mileage for a reasonable warranty cost.

Didn't realise that :) , he does have up to £25k though if that's enough?

Guys,

I don't have the space for, need or want 2 cars and it doesn't have to be a convertible, neither does it have to cost 25 grand.

Maybe i'll just get a Mondeo and be done with it.
In that case I'd consider a 2009 Jag XF Diesel S.

You'll miss it, but then you won't miss all the visits to the petrol station.

The torque is nice, but it's the sound I miss the most.

how anout you spend 16 to 20k on a E93 335I amd spend an extra 1 or 2k per year on petrol?

Stock they have 306 bhp or 375 with a map

I ran into the same issue starting this job nearly 2 years ago.

Had to sell my GTR and bought a Pug 306 HDI Turbo which get me 60mpg 1 month later i bought another GTR and use the pug to get to work and still have money to play about with the GTR (and myself)

I dont earn much either.

Nothing wrong with diesel and convertible. People here watch too much Top Gear.

Spot on. I've got a diesel convertible. Don't see the problem with it. Once you're moving it makes very little difference over and above the normal diesel pros and cons. (and mine is a PD engine so particularly rough). The enjoyment of driving top down is still there. I'll quite often do the whole 167mile commute top down too. Of course I'd rather a petrol but all the factors meant the diesel was the best option.

I'd have bought a 3 series cab but didn't want to borrow anything so had to settle for the A4 cab.

So you save 5 mins of time a couple of times a month?

I do 25k+ a year and believe me, unless it effects you it's hard to believe how much of an issue it is.

I do always laugh at diesel v petrol threads. The way some people seem to have a personal vendetta against diesel confuses me. Just like the "Apple" issue, it tends to be irrational. I'm not one of them but some people like the lazy torquey delivery, personally I like the high revving petrol engine. It seems they're on the decline though.

One final thought about multiple cars. I decided to go down that route a few years back. It worked well, I like being able to not worry about wear and damage on the Clio. It does feel that I'm always paying out for tyres/service/insurance/tax for one of the three though.
