TL;DR version - disappointed by all three games, they all felt rushed and unremarkable :( does anyone else feel the same?!

So I've just finished Resistance 3 (bit late to the game, I know :p). What a disappointment. No major boss battles (Leviathan etc. in R2), no new game dynamics, no new weapons, bland & unimaginative characters... and after the epic cliffhanger ending of R2, what a disappointingly mute ending R3 had :(

Uncharted 3, good, but compared to the U2, nowhere near as epic... there were frequently points in U2 where my jaw was literally on the floor with how amazing the game was (some of the snow scenes are especially vivid in my memory). The only time I felt like this with U3, was riding through the desert, in the clearly Indiana-Jones-inspired level. The U2 final boss was especially epic, and bloody difficult on the "Crushing" difficulty. There wasn't even a final boss on U3?! Just some stupid button mashing nonsense.

Same goes for Killzone 3... the KZ2 Radek final boss fight was possibly the hardest and most frustrating game ending I have ever played (on the hardest setting). Compare that to the cop out cut scene ending onf KZ3... wtaf?!

I actually went back and played through these games again because they were so damn awesome! To complete on the hardest difficulty, mop up all the trophies, find all the hidden items etc.

No such desire for KZ3/U3/R3 :(

Did Sony make the studios rush through development as quickly as possible, just so they could churn out something using famous franchise names?

Makes me sad/angry if so

Naughty Dog openly talk about the fact that they announced a release date too early and regret the decision. They've said several times they will never allow that to happen again, opting instead for a 'when it's done' development style.

I too thought Uncharted 3 was not as good as 2, it was still a very good game, but could and should have been so much more. I do however have high hopes for Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us as a result of Naughty Dog's honesty about U3's development cycle.

Ok, did not know that Naughty Dog had come out and said that... good to hear :)

Yeah "The Last of Us" trailer looked pretty awesome - love a good zombie/apocalypse game, looking forward to it ++ :D

I was not as disappointed with how U3 ended given it has more of an "episodic" feel... but Resistance 2 teed up such a massive cliffhanger, and I expected an epic conclusion in R3. Massively disappointed by what was delivered :(

Cheets, seems to me like the first game is a solid opener (ignore KZ1 for now :p), second game is massively polished and EPIC, and the third one is just rushed and riding on the success of the second :(

Kind of flies in the face of what I was taught in primary school... first the worst, second the best, third the one with the hairy breast :p

Only played the Uncharted series, but 2 and 3 are way better than 1.

I can think of tons of games/movies where the sequels have superior, in fact I'm struggling to think of many where the first in the series is better.

They always are, the first is always the best, same with movies.

Gears 2 and 3 are both better than 1 :p
Fifa 12 is better than Fifa 1996 ;)

Bioshock, Dead Space, The darkness off the top of my head :)
I'm sure the list could be massive if I loked through my games.

I really enjoyed Uncharted 3 and I'm undecided over whether I prefer it to 2. I think it looks better however and found there to be a bit more variety to the cover -> shoot battles than before.

I loved KZ3 multiplayer and, shamefully, have not played the single player or previous games. I suppose I'm also a bit odd in that I really like the Move controls too though!

Huh, you liked the random melee bits where endless enemies would swarm you whilst you mashed buttons?! Totally unnecessary imo :(

I'll admit I haven't tried KZ3 with Move and/or 3D... perhaps this makes up for what it lacks in other areas... :(

Not really the melee bits, no, but it felt as though there was a greater variety of tactics available rather than hide behind this rock, kill, move, hide... I used a lot more weapons on U3 than on U2.

/makes plans to play KZ3 once I've completed Kingdoms of Amalur...

Quick Metacritic exercise, which I may expand on...

I think my point is do with expectation... the first in a game series, if it is good, is always a pleasant surprise. Any shortcomings can be excused because it's still ground-breaking and/or is born during a console's infancy (a la Resistance FoM).

But after 3 iterations, especially when the second is so damn good, you expect to at least maintain the level of the second game, not for it to be a backwards step :(

I thought Uncharted 1 was poor to average at best, the second fixed a lot of the problems from the first (boring level design, cod like waves of enemies in nearly every area, cheating A.I...) I haven't finished it yet but I'm loving it.

Nope don't agree at all, Resistance 3 IMO is the best of the 3. Uncharted 1 was the best closely followed by 2 & 3, and killzone 3 although not great was enjoyable although 2 was Slightly better.

I thought all 3 games were up there within there genre, I.e can't name many if any fps better than resistance 3 or killzone 3.

Resistance and Killzone have always been poor, I but they came out at a time when the PS3 was really struggling and the games were average at best, Once the console started coming into it's stride though they should have dropped the series altogether,

If Killzone 2 came out now it would be classed as a reasonablely decent FPS, It wouldn't have got anywhere near the affection it got at the time, Resistance 1 would probably not even get green lit in the current cycle of things, It was really, really poor

I wasnt really a fan of Uncharted 2

It's a tightrope making a sequel to a popular game. Make it too similar and people will say that it's just more of the same and could have been DLC. If they change too much then people will say "it wasn't broke, so why try and fix it?". I'd say one of the worst sequels for me was Lemmings 2
