The effects of personal debt

Sadly yes he is. Completely out of touch with reality.
in your opinion and you are entitled to that opinion.

but im also debt free and have a healthy bank balance so im doing something right.
my job doesnt cover the bills for my rent, so i live in debt. so what is your answer to this?!?

so how do you pay the rent? you just get into more and more debt every month?

pretty much yeh, one month i dont pay one bill, then the following month i pay that and not another and so on. eventually it will catch up with me, but there isnt much i can do about it.
im not living a lifestyle of luxary, i live in the cheapest place i could rent with only the basic utility bills. my wages do not cover it and thanks to our lovelly government i get absolutly no help.

the joys of being part of a middle class forum. silver spoons and not a drop of empathy in the house.

my mum worked a full time job and a part time job for most of herworking life.
one as a cleaner and the other as a kitchen porter in a mental health hospital.
she meets the goverment retirement age but still works partime.

my dad worked full time at a brewery before beeing made redundant and then he got factory work cleaning industrial ovens.

i grew up on a council estate thats known as one of the worst areas of nottingham.

tbh stats can say what you want

85% of cat owners said their cat prefered whiskers........ erm yes of course they did if you only asked whiskers buyers....

also

if you have a mortgauge your in debt

if you are self employed you have debt as u owe the tax office untill you pay at end of the year you dont pay in advance now do you ?

if you have a credit card your in debt

if u live in the uk your in debt.. ypu owe poll tax for the year ahead

if u have a tv your in debt you have to pay your tv licence in advance

if your a student and you have a grant your in debt

if you drive your in debt etc etc etc etc

that doesnt mean to say your in negative equity but your still in debt to someone or something...

if you pay in advance does that not make them in debt to you, not you to them? so therefore you are in credit.

the point is it can be in any of these areas plus others not all...

so if u are in any of those above your are in debt to someone even if you are in credit with others

you would still be technically in debt

Just for accuracy I would point out here that it may not be in advance, but you do pay on account for the current amount due, so not far in arrears, and can be in credit.

I am in a monumental amount of debt due to divorce and a failed business. I am and intend to pay it back in full, even though it will probably take me till I retire.

The best thing is I can never get credit again. Therefore the temptation/ability to obtain credit will never be there.

I now prefer my life knowing that unless I have the money in the bank, I can't have it.

You sound like you should look at Bankruptcy, seriously, it's what the mechanism is there for, so you don't have to pay for the rest of your life after making mistakes.

You can still use the same lessons learnt and not make them again.

if losing your job is going to make you unable to pay your mortage then maybe you should think about just how stable your job is and will be until that mortage is paid off.

I generally don't have an issue with your posts and I thought you were doing some light trolling when I read this thread, but if you're serious then you really need to have a rethink...So you're saying people should never buy a house if they can't be certain of 25 years of job stability? I would guess very few houses would be sold then.

You should also realise what a dodgy position you are in when mrbell1984 starts agreeing with you ;):p

I must say I now prefer my life knowing that unless I have the money in the bank, I can't have it.

As previously stated, have you considered bankruptcy?

If the situation is as you have described, surely this is the best option?

Glad I'll never be in debt.

Same. Fortunately I don't have expensive tastes like the skint people has so I just watch my money grow every month. I can tell a million stories about people, colleagues, even family members that just bleed money through vanity, insanity and good old pure stupidity.

losing your job puts you in debt? in my day people didnt buy things until they had saved the money.....

Not sure when your day was but at 31 I NEVER buy things I can't pay cash. This include anything and everything apart from property.

How can you guarantee you will never be in debt?

then you should have a understanding of these things, instead of a hard-line approach. in many cases people are to blame for debt. but sometimes people simply have what they have taken away from them. unless your view is don't buy a house unless you can buy it outright i don't get where you are coming from.

if you are self employed you have debt as u owe the tax office untill you pay at end of the year you dont pay in advance now do you ?

Actually you do pay quote a proportion in advance. Did you not know that?

if u live in the uk your in debt.. ypu owe poll tax for the year ahead

Poll Tax? Seriously? I guess really this sums up your post but I'll continue..

if u have a tv your in debt you have to pay your tv licence in advance

If you've paid for your TV license in advance then duh, its not a debt.

if your a student and you have a grant your in debt

A grant is not debt because it is never paid back. Thats why its a grant.

if you drive your in debt etc etc etc etc

Why?

The senitment of your post is spot on but the examples chosen are frankly ridiculous. This is turning into a thread of bonkers-extremes.

100% of people in debt only have them selves to blame

When I was about 3 both parents had a job and a mortgage, they had a speed boat, 2 cars etc and things were on the up and up, They had just paid for fees on another house to be inspected and put an offer in, things were good then Mum fell ill.... within 24 hours she was in hospital in a critical condition a further 12 hours later she was in a coma, she didn't wake for a further 4 months, by which time they had lost the other house and all the fees applicable when moving, Mum lost her job as she clearly was never going to go back to that job (yes she got a pay out but it was only small, She was a trainee accountant and only 24 so hadn't been working for long enough to have warranted a large pay out) but worst of all, she lost every finger on both of her hands meaning there was very little she could do in terms of work, and So became the struggle of living on 1 income with a 3 yr old and a mortgage. Obviously the speed boat went and we moved to a small house as soon as was possible and things started to look up. Dad started a business with his family which again was doing well (Carpet cleaning company) until someone stole the van and stripped it of the equipment essentially shutting the company down for well over a month while insurance claims went through etc etc etc....

Please, explain to me how any of this was THERE fault? How was my mum falling ill and losing all of her fingers and the ability to work HER fault.
