Hi guys, this is the build so far. I'm looking to spend around £850 because i need to buy a monitor too.

Case - ARIANET StealthX Type-R Black Midi Tower Chassis - £28.98

CPU - Intel i5 4 Core 3570K/2500K - £157.06/£137
(I intend on overclocking this to at least 4.5ghz. So i want sure whether to go with the 2500k because it doesn't get as hot at that speed. Or the 3570k because it makes better use of my motherboard and is more power efficient? Plus the 2500k saves me another 20ish quid).
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H - £63.17
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600mhz XMS - £31.73
GPU - ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II - £350
ASUS GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II - £297.36
(I'm getting pretty confused over these two, i know the 680 is more powerful, but my plan was to overclock the 670 to take it past the regular 680 but for less money. *** No price hinting *** Is there at GTX 680 version that ISN'T the TOP?)

PSU - OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Power Supply Unit - £50.99
(Will this be enough?)

HDD - 1TB Corsair Black 7200RPM - £69.99
SSD - 64GB Crucial m4 SSD - £61.00
(Worth getting a smaller one for less money? Only want it to boot off of really).

Disk Drive -
Plextor PX-L890 SA 24x - £28.67

CPU Fan - Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - £19.16

Finally, will all this fit in that case?

Thanks guys!

Looks like a nice enough spec, but that case is ghastly and I highly doubt you will be able to fit a 270*111.15*39 mm 670 in it.

There are worse ways to get into PC gaming :)

I know cases are a subjective thing, but do yourself a favour and get something like this instead. Much nicer, and worth the extra £20.

The 3570K is newer, and is supposed to be 10% faster clock-for-clock than the 2500K. My friend just replaced his 2500K with the 3570K and it's cooler than the 2500K was. The temperature only becomes an issue when pushing 4.8 - 5GHz and beyond, so don't worry. Get the 3570K if you can afford it.

Motherboard and RAM should be fine, but I'd recommend the low profile Corsair Vengeance if it's the same price, just for peace of mind with large CPU coolers. Plus, the low profile heatsink looks better :D

Get the 680 if you can for that price (not on eBay or from Hong Kong, I hope? :D). If not, the 670 will be plenty. I'm assuming you're gaming at 1920 x 1080?

The PSU will be plenty.

If I were you, I'd spend the extra and get the 128GB Crucial M4. It's nice to have games on there, too. I can guarantee you'll regret not buying the bigger SSD.

As for the DVD drive, you don't need to spend almost £30 to get a decent one. Something from LG, Sony or Samsung would do you fine.

Many people here swear by the Gelid Tranquillo CPU cooler, so that might be worth looking at.

Please don't buy the Arianet case. It looks tacky and cheap :D

It will all fit in most mid tower cases, but spend around £50, and get something decent.

the 2500k is great for overclocking, but i would buy the i30 cpu cooler

the pc case i would change, their is plenty of nice pc cases for a budget of £30

if i was you because your spending so much on a gpu £300-350 i would go for a case that can keep it all nice and cool.

like you have said you want to overclock the cpu and the gpu so their is going to be a lot of extra heat.
so with in your budget leave some cash £20-30 for a few GOOD QUALITY fans

also have you got a 64bit version of windows ?? i ask because your buying 8gig of ram

and why the mega expensive gpu?? what r u planning on doing??

Ok, ok! I won't get that case. I was just swayed by the 4 included fans! :D I was looking at the Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1450 RPM for a case fan, really well rated from what i've seen.

Ok then, so the verdict is go for the 3570k over the 2500k and overclock it to the point it's getting too hot and then bring it down a little? Rather than go for the older but safer option?

Yeah, i've changed my mind on the graphics card as i'm struggling to find one. I've gone for the ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP Edition (found it for less than the one i was going to get somehow!). So the 680 it is on that. Yeah, 1920 x 1080!

Already have a copy of 64bit Windows yeah, so that's something i don't have to fork out for luckily!

As for the GPU, i just want to cover myself for at least 3 years as i'm off to uni in September and won't be able to afford any upgrades during that time :(

If you're buying a smallish case, don;t gget the hotter 3750, get the 2500, thr perfomance difference is miniml and you can OC th 2500k further wit less heat

the 3750k is cooler.... there have been heat problems with major overclocks, 4.5ghz as the OP said should be fine.

I would say your better of with ditching the SSD altogether and buying a 32Gb MSATA card in combination with Intel's SRT technology you can use it as a large cache for your hard drive and buy a better case of CPU cooler with the money saved.

Listen to Tediore. He's spot on. If you're not planning to go for an Extreme OC then the 3570k is a better choice.
3570k with either a H100 or a BeQuiet Darkrock Pro, M4 SSD and Corsair 550D would be my choices

dont go for a small cheap case, the free fans will be **** anyway.

Ok guys, i've revised my build a bit from what you guys are saying and this is it now:

Case - Aerocool Sixth Sense Red (better looking, better fans, more room for efficient airflow?)

CPU - Intel i5 4 Core 3570K
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600mhz XMS3
GPU - ASUS GeForce GTX 680 TOP Edition
PSU - Corsair Builder Series 600w

HDD - 1TB Corsair Black 7200RPM
SSD - 64GB Crucial m4 SSD

Disk Drive - Sony AD-7261S-0B 24x (about half the price the one i was going to get)

CPU Fan - Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus

How's that looking now? Comes to around 850 in total.

I think the 670 and 680 prices are switched by accident.

That's what i thought. I rang up and asked about the price, also spoke to a lady on their Facebook. She said that if the price changed then there would be no additional cost so I should be fine if that is the case.

Anywhere that is doing a GTX 680 for £300 is not somewhere I'd trust.

That's £130 short of the most basic 680s at OCUK!

***I know that we can't name any competitors***

That's what i thought! But they have a very positive review score of 4.9/5 and I spoke to a lady down the phone about it, as well as confirming it with somebody on their Facebook. I even paid through Paypal to make sure i was covered! Maybe I just lucked out.

I know it sounds glaringly obvious but I am always wary of those review scores simply because a score of 5/5 means nothing to very little if only 3 people have reviewed the company, compared to a score of say 3/5 if 10,000 people reviewed the company.
a high score with few people says they dont get many people buying and the scores could be bumped up a little by the owners. A score of 3/5 with 10,000 reviews indicates they have quite a high satisfaction rate with at least 66% of the voters and most often you will find the most vocal group are the disgruntled ones who want to make their complaint heard loud and clear all over the world

tl;dr: I choose who I buy from quite carefully and am wary of review scores
