Official Avengers Tread ere

Is it just me that thought near the end that thor would 'power up' iron man like he did in the fight in the forest, i ws fully expecting that to an uber move for some flashy iron man stuff, but alas not to be.

No, IIRC the only time Thor used lightning during the end battle was when he used it on the portal to destroy a load of stuff coming through it to give them a bit of time.

Marvel's The Avengers smashed domestic box office records this weekend, and now stands as having the biggest opening weekend of all time with a whopping $207.4 million. The previous record holder was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 with $169 million.

The Avengers' Friday opening day is the second highest single day take of all time ($80.8 million) and its Saturday haul of $69.5 million and Sunday haul of $57.0 million represent the new record for single Saturday and Sunday takes. Globally, The Avengers has now amassed an estimated $654.8 million over 12 days in release.

Staggering! Blitzed Harry Potter.

Can Batman beat it in July?

Does this mean that Joss Whedon's stock will rise?
As far as I am aware, this is Whedon's 2nd feature film (as director).
I'm staggered that he hasn't directed other movies since Serenity (which I loved).

With The Avengers looking to hit $1b sometime in the next week or so I don't think his stock has ever been higher.

And it's sort of a testament to what you can do with a comic book film when you put a fan in charge.

Kinda off topic but I'm currently reading Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, proving to be a very enjoyable read given I usually really dont like Marvel's stuff

I think it flopped. Frankly his stock hasn't been that high since Buffy ran out of steam.

What flopped? The Avengers?

Whedon has always been held in very high regard by a large number of fans - myself included. He's got such a great knack for characters...

This film will certainly have boosted his "stock" in terms of Hollywood financiers - as it would for anyone who wrote and directed a $1Bn+ grossing movie.

Big things were expected from Serenity at the box office. It failed to deliver.
They should've added a vampire with a teenage girl in love with the vampire. That would've added a few 100 million dollars.

But Serenity was always fan service to attempt to close off Firefly rather than a debut movie that was expected to be a monster hit, if it was we would have got Firefly Season 2 and not a movie...

ps3ud0

Probably not. It was pre-Twilight.

Maybe, but Serenity was supposed to be a trilogy of films.

Why wasnt spiderman in this film? I thought he was Marvel too?

Not really clued on the whole Marvel and DC stuff.

...well there are quite a few Marvel characters that aren't in it. Spiderman has been in the Avengers lineup at times. They can't use him though because Sony currently have the film rights to the character.

Yeah unfortunately Marvel has given up the rights to Xmen, Spiderman and the Fantastic 4 on a near permanent basis (provided Sony keep making the movies) so none of those characters can be used in The Avengers. To be honest I'm more gutted that we can never have a proper Dr Doom more than missing Spidey.
