New Astra VXR gets 0-62mph time

Vauxhall Astra or a Nissan 370Z with 50bhp more for just an extra £2k...

Thing is I bet the 370z comes with leather and other toys standard. If you equip the Astra to the same spec it'll exceed the price.

It's wasn't a judgement - it was a statement of fact :)

That statement of fact that is rather erroneous to the discussion of cars. You could just well have stated the 'Earths natural satellite is grey' and say 'Show me one that isn't'.

General Motors price and spec their cars to fit exactly into the brackets you yourself have just judged it in, list price and BHP. There is a lot more to a car then that. The new Astra for example is a heavy beast, on average 200kg's heavier than the equivalent Focus. That plays a part on price, efficiency and performance, so why narrow your judgement to figures which are easily influenced my mitigating factors?

Even the Audi S3 is only a few grand more
Have you seen the options list for the current A3; the cost quickly goes up. Plus the new A3 is just around the corner.

This Astra is expensive but from reports on the net it looks like it comes with a lot of kit as standard, has the most power out of any hot hatch currently available and is based on a new model.
Its Probably best to wait until the test drive reviews are out until we write it off completely.

Mk1 FiestaST was around 14k on release.
Mk2 FiestaST will be around 18k on release.

A lot of the "cheap" cars have gone up in price lately, while cars that have always been expensive have stayed the same. Probably because the cheap "rubbish" is getting so much equipment as standard now?

295 torques

RAGE!

I can't say that the car offends me at all, but the price is loltastic.

The older Astra VXR in my eyes is a reasonable alternative to the Focus ST, less common as its not quite as good, but then cheaper to make up for this I guess.

They are all cars and we like cars, so it's all good!

I wouldn't say cheaper. My search was originally for a Focus ST and they are quite noticably cheaper than a VXR with the same reg and mileage.

Yes i could see the Focus ST being a better handler but the VXR isnt bad at all. I haven't really noticed any performance difference on the bends yet from my old Fiesta ST and the VXR. Thats since i put the new CSC3 tyres on all around and thats saying something, the Fiesta is better than a Focus on the bends. A standard VXR is also quite faster than a standard Focus, i know this ;)

Damn good all around car. Good for Round town driving, brilliant on the motorway (37mpg@70-80), very fast, fun, big boot space, comfy, mods are low price yet massive increase in performance compared to other cars punch per pound.

People are to quick to judge, yes some have test drove a VXR but they haven't lived with one. Everyone i have seen who has lived with one loved it.

Though saying all this, i might not be keeping mine for much longer ;)

Exactly this - now you don't need to pay extra for cruise, parking sensors, DAB radio, bluetooth, folding mirrors, interior LED's etc because it's all standard.

In the options list now are things like active park assist, lane departure warning, rear camera and radar cruise. All this stuff isn't/wasn't available on the previous gen cars of this type i.e. the current (outgoing) Audi A3, which was my point above but went straight over Fox's head.

So at best, if you are 100% spot on, some new cars (Remember, SOME. I have demonstrated that other manufacturers have not massively hiked prices) are now considerably more expensive because you must now pay for features you used to be able to decide not to have. Not really sure how this makes an awful lot of difference to the point at hand, I'm sure most VXR buyers would rather pay £21k and miss out on DAB radio, folding mirrors and interior LED's (Though nice speculation given we dont know the spec or the standard equipment).

Probably a big reason is discounting - only a fool will actually pay £27k for a VXR, I'd imagine that once the hype dies down there will be some deep discounts available on it.

Broadspeed are already offering them for just over 23k! Judging by the options list too on here, there's plenty that doesn't, but arguably should, come standard for the price.

Did anyone really think that a Vauxhall RRP was going to be the actual going price?

LOL!!!

So no climate or Auto Lights, Wipers and Xenons as standard?

EDIT: Or Cruise?

Who cares though! It has a two tone HORN FTW!

Cruise is standard.

That may be subject to change but that's at least what you get on the majority of higher-spec GTCs anyway, so you won't get any less than that.

I think xenons are part of the Sight and Light pack (I think it's called that) but that may well come as standard.

Joe T may well know more.

Those seem to come under Option Packs though according to that list?

Oh, I see you edited.
