Creative Gigaworks T40....Yes or no?

I have a pair of T40's as I needed something that fitted on my desk and I was looking for a good every day speaker for music while on the PC as well as games.

Paired with a Xonar D1/X here and I find they have a good all round sound with some depth, not boomy or too bassy (I am not a great fan of booming bass, my old 2.1 set (Logitech) had a good sound but a lot of bass).

I had a pair of second hand T20's to start with and they sounded fine but I had a chance to pick a pair of T40's up at a reduced rate and so went for them and don't regret it.

I think audiophiles will advise a different set but for everyday use I think they are a good compromise and with the new DX/1 I can hear all the 'bits' of the music and they sound good in games as well. I like the middle tones in choral music in particular. I was also listening to some Tom Petty earlier and it sounds just 'right'.

I can't advise on the comparison on the basis of sound as I have not heard the others but I have seen the MicroLab Solo6C's rated well on forums and elsewhere, I read a few reviews which suggested they 'clean up' the sound on tracks recorded on MP3 better but I tend to record without a lot of compression myself.

I would also say they do mean you can hear the difference in your sound card..I went from a DG to a D1/x on advice from here and it is a much sweeter spot.

In the same price range are M-Audio AV40's which are meant to be very good. If you are tighter on desk space then I think the T40's are very good. I have the original T40's and am very happy with the sound, the series II are meant to improve on this slightly.

Sorry I can't compare them to the Solo6C though, I have never heard them.

I have the T40s, and they're okay. Good clear sound and are fine for movies and gaming, but lack the bass I like for music. Not tried the Solo6Cs.

What card are you using right now? If you are using onboard sound then I'd recommend buying even a cheap 2nd hand card for sound.

Are you replacing the speakers or using the others elsewhere? Just didn't want you to blow money on a 2nd set of speakers when your existing one's will be good enough.

I would have said, get the sound card first and see if you prefer the sound ( would be amazed if you didn't - your speakers should come alive :) ).. then get the T40's if you feel they will bring a 'space' benefit.

They are very good speakers, but just remember they are a compromise as well.

Im using Logitech Z4s at the moment, they're a few years old and the left speaker tends to decide for itself when it wants to work lol

lol, totally got the wrong idea. I thought you were wanting to replace a set of 6C's you already had lol.

Take a look at the M-Audio AV40's. They are bigger than the T40's but I don't think as big as the 6C's.

T40 Series II are good speakers, you won't be disappointed I don't think, just trying to give you some options :-)

As mentioned, definately get a sound card if you are getting decent speakers. A PCI (not PCI-E) Xtreme Music can be picked up for about £12 to £18 2nd hand. Stupidly low price for good sound quality. I did note you said D2X though, so that's PCI-E, D2X is a good card as far as I'm aware probably better than the Xtreme Music :-) (Sure someone can verify that).
