Hi Guys - new build all parts From O/Cs Came Friday - built today.

Specs to add - but :
Rampage extreme 'rive'
i7 Extreme x3960
g skill 16GB quad channel
corsair 650d case
corsair h100 hydra cooling
x2 Samsung SSDs in Raid - 830 series
Samsung screen 120Hz 3D
Corsair pro 850 gold edition psu

Fitted my asus gtx 690 etc. - all went well !
Raid easy enough.

Infact the build was great tbh.
Until i installed graphics drivers - tried both 301.33 and 34s, device manager sees them, but they will not bite hold at all.
Tried driver cleaner , uninstalled / installed etc etc no go !

Moved card down to third slot - still same. Everything seems to be working ok. Re seated card 5 times now and she will not have it.. Card lights up ok - fans spin up ok- no post errors. Only error i get is this through Asus tweak util 'You are not currently using a display attached to an nvidia gpu', so done googles ands been over to ROG Forums posted their too. Cant find an answer.

So im very tired now need sleep. Going to try my old monitor next and my trusty gtx295 to see what happens. So now im lost

Oh yeah - latest bios 1305 on Mobo. sorry

thx

Nice build,

What monitor do you have (-model)?

There have been some problems with the drivers not recognising the Samsung S27A750D

Had a problem like this once with amd, the only way i could get it to work was install the drivers off the cd that came with it then install the latest drivers over the top of the old

mmm interesting about the monitor !
I have the Samsung S23A700D 23" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Gaming Monitor.

Just put in my gtx295 to test system and same thing will not kick in. So just going to try GTX690 IN My old system to make sure thats ok.

Only other thing i can think of now after i have tested the gtx 690 would be some kind of setting in the monster bios

update soon.

thx

You should not need to connect the EZ-plug PCI-E connector on the motherboard but its worth a shot if you are out of options and its not plugged in...

Ok update : i tried Gen 2 but still did not pick up the gtx 690.

So what i have done now is this :
Swapped out GTX690 for my gtx295 from my old rig.

GTX 690 Card now works fine in my old rig with the new 120 hz screen = very nice !!!
However same issue now with my GTX 295 not being picked up in the new rig.Again the device manager sees them but with errors.

Tried slot 2 / 3 in mobo = no go too.

So i wonder if there is some other setting in the bios ? I have reset to optimized defaults.
I may swap bios over to 2 and see if that does the trick ?

update.
It looks like a Raid issue guys.

Took of Raid and went into AHCI Mode , BINGO Full glory graphics.

However done a couple of driver updates and now getting BSOD - Im positive its something to do with Raid / ahci Drivers now.

So going to try ide mode - just to see.
Then also Re-seat CPU - as advised in Rog Forums.

Cannot see a setting for PCIEX First on Rog Extreme.
And no on-board graphics - at least Thats what i understood with the RIVE Mobo = will double check though. And im sure the CPU has no graphics in the x3960.

thx for feedback..

Update:

Got the latest bios on bios1 = 1305
bios2 =1101 , original that came with it.

What i have just done = swapped monitors over, made no difference, so thats out of the way.

Put GTX 690 In old rig , works fine ! Thats out of the way.

Put GTX295 in new rig again - did not work ! But can see it in device manager and in Bios on lane 1.

Swapped between Gen 3 and Gen 2 , no difference.

Re-sat CPU, Nothing , no difference again.

Went back AHCI to IDE Mode, re-installed,all drivers from Discs = no difference.
I originally thought it was something to do with Raid / AHCI , Nope its not.

PC State with new GTX 690 Boots fine - no post errors, Finishes on 'AA' = Normal. Card still shows in Bios !

Temps ALL ok.

SO , All i can think of is maybe the Motherboard does have a problem with it somewhere.
Phone tech support Monday ! Thats all i can think off !

Could anyone confirm whether their is onboard graphics ? I cant find anything on Motherboard, CPU Etc

Lol yeah never thought about that ! doh.

Anyway - no it does not have onboard graphics.

My gut feeling now is a possible compatibility problem with it being a new Graphics card and the Mobo is not reading it correctly ? Possibly a new bios for the mobo maybe needed.

RMA In action im afraid.
GTX 690 Works great in my old trusted x48 rampage. So that will keep me going until sorted.
So Mobo on its way back.

Well its been a couple of weeks now so i thought it would be good to update, ON 'You are not currently using a display attached to an nvidia gpu'

I changed my Asus extreme board to the G1 Assassin x79, but that too gave the same issue with the Graphics card not kicking in !

After contacting 'James' In technical support , he suggested changing the Monitor. So changed to the Benq Red / Black = nice piece of kit TBH.

However still same issue , talk about scratch my head and totally stumped !

BUT , I found one thread somewhere on another forum with similar issues that it could be to do with Windows and the service packs. So installed windows 64 without Service Pack and Guess what = it worked  I then continued to update the op system with the security updates and Service pack 1 and all was still good ! THANK GOD !

Why, i don't know and cannot ANSWER.

However i don't think that was the full issue here because i started to get a RED SCREEN OF DEATH  Asus only last week released an update to GTX 690 Software tweak utility - why = Red screen of death, Go figure ! Thats now resolved and im sure contributed to the Drivers not kicking in on the Card.

So almost done now and i,m a happy bunny, system SUPER FAST, Knocked up 3460 on Heaven benchmark and CPU Upto 4.5ghz.
Now i have my trusted GTX 295 Spare ! So i may put her in and dedicate to physics only and see how that goes.

Raid - what a nightmare that was ! but thats another thread on the x79 to come. It was like pulling teeth but got their in the End.

Finally - A BIG THANKS TO JAMES AT Overclockers , listened to all my issues and Gave first class service !

I found when I installed my GTX690s in SLI on a RIVE I had a bad time trying to get 4 way sli with the drivers. After trying a few things it turned out to be which output the monitor was connected to.

Another little problem I found was with an old version of GPUZ using it caused an instant red screen which required a reboot. As soon as I updated to the current version problem solved.

What a nightmare snout
glad its all sorted now but rma'ing a board then changing a monitor to find out its windows service pack is tough.
sweet system by the way :)
