Road Cycling Essentials

It's been stunning in Stoke last few days.. Finally getting around to exploring some of the roads around here. It's quite fun doing a ride that goes through 3 counties. :)

I should probably have a rest day today.. But.. Ah, it's supposed to be raining tomorrow.. I'll rest then ;)

Can anyone recommend a helmet mounted camera, primarily for commuting use?

I'm not that familiar with camera technology, especially ones for sports, so my criteria are:
  • I don't want to be spending more than £200, unless it really is worth it.
  • Robust
  • Waterproof/weatherproof
  • Good image quality day and night. Good enough to capture license plates, especially when things are moving.
  • Helmet mountable

Thanks

Just had the worst 4 hours on a bike I've every endured. Bonked 30 minutes in and struggled badly from then on. Three weeks ago I climbed Combe Lane in 5mins 50s and today I had to walk part of it. Oh, the shame.

You had sex 30mins in? No wonder you performed badly from then on :P

My money is on the Contour. (Got one myself)

Purely from the look of the GoPro, i'd be paranoid of walking into something and damaging it, plus if you're going fast the wind resistance would try and turn your head.

Anyone know what size bearings MKS pedals use, 5/32" possibly? The slyvan tourers on my commuter have just gone crunchy probs due to the recent weather. Also does anywhere in the uk sell dust cap tool, doesn't seem to be on ebay or any uk shops. Can always scratch them up with pliers but would be nice to have the tool, wiggle even sells the caps but not the tool it seems.

That's why most people mount it on top of the helmet :p

You're right though, it is fairly cumbersome, but it easily gives the best picture quality in that price bracket. It's also got the largest choice of peripherals so you could, for example, buy the dashboard mounting kit and use it when you're driving too (for potential insurance claims this ability could prove to be a godsend).

You had no food with you?

Thanks guys, I shall read a few reviews on each but I prefer the sleekness/inconspicuous look of the Contour HD.

What happened? Did you start too fast, or your body wasn't used to the exertion after two weeks off the bike?

So I did that 70K this morning, got back pretty much trashed, was in the shower trying to recover when the phone went.. GF says "Do you fancy going out for a bike ride" :o
Thankfully we ended up going on a 5 mile walk over Cleeve Hill instead.

Then I had the typical "cager" attitude you get when on the bike... but I was in the CAR!!
First time that's happened in a car
She was behind me honking her horn. I was doing 29 mph in a 30 on a tight and twisty Cotswold village street with cars parked on one side and the occasional bike coming toward me (which, much to her distress, I slowed down for).
about 45 seconds later, she backed off, slowed down, pulled over and her passenger got out..

Yup, couple of bars and 750ml of SiS. Also there was a feed station after 50 odd km. Food helped, but i just didn't seem to be able take enough on board. Haven't uploaded the GPS yet but it's going to make for some grim reading.

Meh :(

I think I've damaged the muscles on the outside of my knee. Burning sensation when I'm bent on my knees playing with my children. Going to have to go to the Doctors :(

I had issues with pain on the outside of my knee, which was down to tight muscles, particularly the IT band. Could it be this? It helped when I went to the physio to iron out my muscles. That was painful!
