Hi guys, new here and just wanted a few of your opinions.
I've recently purchased a gtx680 and am looking at upgrading the rest of my rig (using an old amd cpu) and putting an order in tomorrow. It will be my first ever order with ocuk, as I've recently been burnt with another retailer so I'd rather take my business elsewhere.
Anyway it will be strictly a gaming rig.
Now I'm tempted to go for an x79 board with my reasoning being that it will be more "future proof" with me being able to eventually either go for a 3930k or ivy-e.
On the other hand by the time I'll want to upgrade would me just simply buying a new motherboard, cpu etc be a better option if I go with the cheaper z77 route.
I know that today if I built a rig with the 3820 and a rig with the 3570k I'd likely notice ZERO difference for gaming. I have no need for hyper threading, or mega amounts of ram, but again future proofing is my reason for even considering x79.
The same logic is why I'm going for an ax1200 for when I eventually add another 680.
My only concern with the x79 route I'm considering is potential issues with the 3820 not being supported if I go for the msi board depending on how old the bios is, whereas on an asus board say the deluxe or rampage formula etc I could simply update the bios without needing to source a supported cpu. Although that might not even be relevant if the board I get comes with a recent bios.
I'm looking forward to hearing any opinions/advice/insight etc.
Cheers
This is the x79 basket I'm thinking
