"Clothes shopping" in London?

Hi everybody.

First of all, sorry for my english. I arrived at London 3 months ago, and now I got a job with a company with no formal dress code policy. It's perfect because I feel more comfy in T-shirt and jeans, honestly.

The thing is... which fashion stores do you recommend? Primark has a great quality/price ratio, but I want some better stuff. M&S, John Lewis? I don't like H&M ;)

By the way, when does the summer sale start here in UK?

Welcome to OCUK and England. Marks and sparks is where it's at with primark for other things.
I think the Summer sale starts soon, maybe june. But I really doubt you save much as they probably put prices up before.
 
Where to go shopping really will depend on your budget.

For a very good selection of popular brands (with shops that have low/middle to high range prices), you can do a lot worse than head to Westfield shopping centre at Shepherd's Bush. I went recently and thought it was very good.

I live in stratford, so I have a Westfield around the corner ;)

Let's say that I don't want Dolce & gabanna tshirts, but I don't care to spend more than when I go to primark. Maybe t-shirts in the range of 10-20£?

Didn't know about that scam about sales! In my country is illegal and "monitored".
 
go to bicester village. end of thread. dont go to M&S lol!!

ur in the wrong place for fashion advice!! these guy's mum probably still dress tthem lol
 
You could always try out some different looks: skater, power dressing, chav, etc. and see what you like.

Alternatively ask someone you know who's fashion you like.

No point in going all the way Bicester which is miles away when he has just got to London. Bicester is not really the outlet discount village it once was anymore either, it's now more of a regular shopping place.

I'd recommend Paul Smith, Ted Baker and Reiss (some of my favourite shops ;)) if you want a 'respectable' and 'mature' look, edging on smart casual. Bit more expensive than Primark for sure. Better quality definitely, but perhaps not in proportion to the price increase ! ...
 
I live in Stratford!

There's loads of places in Westfield. Check out Superdry, Hollister etc. John Lewis has loads of sexy designer stuff..

I really liked Ted Baker but it almost feels like it's becoming a self-parody, all of their lines are getting overly flowery now.

Thank you too, I will take a look.

Sorry if I didn't explain well, but what I wanted were some advices like "hey, don't go to john lewis, it's very expensive have in consideration the quality" or "don't buy in Zara, it has the same prices range than M&S, and M&S's clothes are much better!"

You pretty much get what you pay for anywhere in the UK with the exception of designer brands. A pair of jeans in Primark is going to be cheap and poor quality compared with more expensive jeans from M&S for instance.

I do one shop a year (sometimes two) and usually just go to somewhere like Topman, the stuff lasts alright and doesn't bust the bank when theres a sale on, and if you can get a student discount (NUS) card then that makes it even cheaper.

Espirt, Uniqulo are good cheap clothes stores or try Camden Market at the weekend. Lots of good different cheap clothes there.

In central London Long Acre/Neal Street a good place (near Covent Gardens) for clothes. And there's always Oxford street for big stores.
