Gaming PC £1000-1200

I was thinking about it, but I'm literally using it for the OS and that's it, so it shouldn't be an issue

The problem is the size. My shogun 2 install for example is 20GB! Nevermind the OS and other apps and games installed.

You say you will only install the OS but installing games to the SSD helps shorten loading times in game. I would have got the 128GB SSD and left out the soundcard.

Not the end of the world though, still a nice selection of parts. Happy gaming! :)

I'm sure once I see the speed of it, I'll buy more of them :D or a bigger one

To compare, my last gaming PCs core components were

Q6600
4GB RAM
AMD X1800 512Mb

That was 3 1/2 years ago, so looking forward to the difference

Oh noooooooooooooo!

I just realised, I didn't buy any thermal paste?! Will the cooler come with the usual thin layer already on I can use in the mean time until I can pick some up?

Love it so far, haven't been able to try and games as I spent all last night building it and updating/installing everything

It's not the quietest of machines, but it won't bother me as I'll always have headphones when installing it

But I got an instant OC to 4GHz just from upping the multi and leaving everything else, seems stable enough so far. Also, my god SSDs are fast. Windows 7 goes from "Starting Windows" then a blank screen for half a second, then Windows is loaded ready to use, literally about a 15 second gap from pressing the power button to being in Windows. Incredible

Will report more tonight after a gaming session

That GPU is tiny :)

It's possible the fan profiles are not optimised. That can reduce noise drastically (12V full pelt vs 7V 'quiet' mode).

And yeah, SSD's are fast. It'll get a wee bit slower as more stuff insert themselves into the startup. But it'll still be stupidly fast.

You can try a program called BootRacer that benchmarks windows startup times.

looks great, i have that gelid cpu cooler and was wondering will a normal 120mm fan fit ? i want one with red LEDs to match my cm enforcer case

It will, if its a 3pin fan then you dont get PWM control (if the Gelid has a four pin or not I cant be bothered to find out)

That would explain why all my fans are full whack as they're only 3 pin, will plug them into the built in fan controller and try that out tonight

Looks very good and neat :)

Once you've got an SSD you wont want to go back!
