I'm afraid to ask, but what roughly is the price range of a respray in a different colour? I won't like it I know.

Want to go from silver to something similar to ST orange

Cheers

My MK1 was £1000 to be resprayed in metallic green (see signature.) by MX5 Restorers and they done an excellent job :). That was last September.

>£500 for a blow over but that won't include and serious preparation and all your door shuts and under the bonnet will be in the old colour, proper job £1500 again with no major preparation.

Someone will have had a Rolls Royce job done for £50 though

£2000 for anything half way decent, depending on how much prep you can do yourself. I'd look into wrapping before you make the jump - you might decide you're prefer the option to revert back.

How long is a piece of string?

There is no rough answer, it depends on what you want, how well you want it done and how you are going to get to do it.

Depending how picky you are, it would probably be much easier to simply wrap the car, rather than paint. Wouldn't harm the resale value this way and would be much cheaper.

Do the prep yourself and you will get a much much better price

And since the quality of the finish is very dependent on the preparation you won't have any come back if the job is a bit of a mess.

To do the job properly you will need to strip out most of the car including engine bay which is a mammoth job and will cost a lot of money. A quick blow over will obviously be much cheaper, but will be obvious with paint lines on trim, different colour paint in the engine bay and boot etc. This kind of work will de-value rather than add value to the car unless the original paint is desperately bad.

I was talking to a guy who used to work in a body shop recently, and he said they ranged from £300 for taxi drivers who just wanted a shoddy job to around £1200-1800

Thanks

Orange ones are hard to find!

It's not only that I don't like the colour there are a few bad patches. I'd like a nice job, no point getting a shoddy one. £1000 I would be happy with. I'm not so fussed about the engine bay tbh. No way I'm attempting to remove the engine!

I was under the impression a wrap wasn't that good to look at? I could be wrong? I was looking at a wrapped bonnet and boot maybe in black to match the roof.

To the post saying 500, that is an amazing price. If it was a good job I would get it done for next month!

It wouldn't be, it would be a rush job which never looks good.

I'd be expecting to pay around the £2000 mark for a decent job. Electric Orange is a pearlescant as well and they are not cheap.

Yeah I was expecting that price but hoping for less. I don't think I can justify that much. Was hoping someone would know somewhere for 1500 or less. :/

This

I used to spray at TVR and id be looking at anythign between 1500 - 2500 dependant on overheads and where it's done.

Pearlescant is an absolute arse to get right and dependant on colour need 2 base coats before any paint touches the surface.

Those say prep yourself, i wouldn't the prep plays the biggest part when spraying pearl i messed it up a fair few times as an apprentis

It's really that much for front and rear bumper and sides? Gawd don't know if I can stomach that!

What I need is a contact who can do a good job for a decent price, doesn't look like I can go commercial!

Grr

If you really want to change colour and don't want to fork out for a decent spray job, find your nearest place that does wraps and go and take a look. A good wrap would be a far better option than a shoddy paint job in my view.

I guess I'm only in wrap price range then! Grr. Do. Wraps ever look decent? Would be going for gloss orange. I saw one that looked good on vxr forums when I googled wrapped orange car

But I know pics can be deceptive
