Hi Guys

Just after a little advice/recommendation..

I've been using Tversity to stream my Movie/TV/Music collection from my PC to my TV (Sony Bravia) for about 6 months now, and it's a little flakey...

So I thought I'd see if theres an update, which there is, but it's no longer free!!

Okay $4 doesn't break the bank, but I'm a little hesitant to pay for a program which it only 60-75% efficient at transcoding my Movies to play on my TV (don't really want to re-encode from .avi to .mp4 on about 250 movies!!).

Does anyone know what the best settings for Tversity are?, or better yet... Does anyone have any better recommendations for a Media Server software??

I've just installed PS3 Media Server to give it a go, but reading on t'interweb it's also a little hit 'n miss!...

*By the way, I'm using a 5Ghz 300Mb Wi-Fi network at the mo! :)

My other option is to just stick the Files I want to watch onto a USB stick and stick it in my Blu-Ray or TV's USB socket (again the TV is a bit Picky on this!!)

Cheers
Sim :)

I stream my DVD rips from my Windows Home Server running MyMovies to a Windows7 PC running the MyMovies plugin in Windows Media Centre.

Works like a charm, really easy to setup, and the MyMovies front end in Windows Media Centre looks really good. I expect there are better solutions available, but for a 'just works' setup it was great. It should read your AVI files fine too.

Didn't realise MyMovies did that?!?!?... Hmmmmmm

I just found on the Sony Forums something called 'Homestream' which appears to be based on Serviio (which is supposed to be good) but has 'Sony Bravia' as one of the pre made profiles...

I'll give this a go, but if anyone has any other suggestions!! :)

i use various ways. If i want to watch MKVs i will put on HDD and play through USB. If im watching TV shows or bog standard AVI's i will stream through PS3. Ive had no trouble with that but my PS3 is wired along with my PC so connections are always fantastic!

Might look at getting some 'Powerline' thinngys, as watching an episode of Battlestar Galactica last night dropped out twice! :(

Does your Sony Bravia have an ethernet port?

Cat6 Gigabit cable from pc > router > tv could help fix dropouts / stuttering.

How big was the battlestar file, what quality? What kind and strength of encoding where you using ps3mediaserver?

Watch the 'current bitrate' value on ps3mediaserver to see if it is overstretching your wifi network.

Edit: My network only runs at 100mbps atm because of a rubbish router. But the stability of wired vs wifi really helped.

Im using powerlines to stream and they work fine for 1080p, cant wait to get somewhere I can run some gigabit ethernet though. Im using Homeserver - HTPC running windows 7 media centre and media browser, works a treat.

Yeah, My Bravia is plugged directly into the Router using the Ethernet port, but my Laptop is in the Back Bedroom (I live in a Flat) and is running on a 5Ghz wi-fi network (Belkin D600).

I'm using Sony/Serviio HomeStream at the moment.

Battlestar was 350Mb file I'll check the encoding (did it about 2 years ago).

+1 for XBMC and a WHS ... Running both the Linux and windows versions and have to say the Linux one is awesome - boots in 30 sec on my revo.

You can install it onto a USB drive and run it off that to try it out ;)

Don't have any m'honey to buy a WD Media Thinngy!!.

PS3Media Server... Rock Solid!! :)

Gonna uninstall Tversity and Homestream now!!...
