Adrian Durham rips apart Arsenal's 'Invincibles'

The problem with Durham's argument is that he's interpreting that the reason that side got picked as the best is because they went unbeaten but what about the quality of football Arsenal played during those 2 or 3 years, the form of Henry and Pires and to a lesser extent Ljungberg, Vieira, Campbell....

I personally rate that Arsenal side massively more than this current Man City one

What I remember of that team was that they had too many draws.

And they didn't score that many goals. I think only 3 times in Premier League history (38 match season) has a winning side scored less than Arsenal did in the 'invincible' year.

It makes sense that by taking less risks attacking your chances of avoiding defeat is higher.

What an oxygen thief! Juventus don't play in the prem, idiot. Unbeaten in the prem is an achievement, New Zealand with 3 draws in the world cup and finishing above Italy is an achievement, being a **** on talksport just isn't.

What a failure of humanity.

LOL inbred oxygen thief is all i have to say regarding this utter douchebag.

Since that Arsenal team, not one Prem team has come even close to what Arsenal achieved...even with the millions that Utd, Chelsea and City have spent, not once have they come close to going the whole season unbeaten.

I think you'll find Chelsea only lost 1 game (Man City beat them 1-0 in Manchester 9 games into season. Chelsea went next 40 games unbeaten in Premier League) when winning the league the following season. They also won with more points than Arsenal did in 03/04.

Durham is just a childish **** with a rather large chip on his shoulder.

How he can be allowed to present on sports is beyond me.

Durham is just doing what he gets paid to do, get a reaction by being controversial. Controversy means more listeners. If he was just an average jack who sat on the fence, TS would not have the listener base it does today and would certainly not enjoy the advertising revenues it gets also.

Whether you agree with what he says or not is a different matter.

well said

Going unbeaten in a league as difficult as the English Premier is a massively respectable feat. Really solid team full of players at their peaks.

Don't see how you can criticize it.

He is a moron, but he makes the other morons angry which makes his station money. Shame really as he doesn't need to do this, a few years ago he was a genuinely good broadcaster but he seems to have gone down the gutter route as it's just easier to talk nonsense and make up controversial opinions to attract the rabid masses onto the phones. He doesn't believe a word he says on TalkSport

Whether you agree with him in this instance, or not, we can all agree that Durham is an unbelievably opinionated turd of the highest order.

His arguments are designed simply to get a reaction but I agree with his sentiment. That Arsenal team were great but to call it the greatest team in the leagues history is a bit much.

They didn't score that many and drew lots of games. Personally I think the premier league is much more competitive than it ever used to be and the fact that the small teams can still have a pop at the giants is great. If you put that arsenal team in the league now I don't think they would come close to winning it and they wouldn't make it a season without losing a game.

You cannot go a season without losing without a large slice of luck, its as simple as that. If a team like Barcelona can't do it then it relies on a lot of luck. The current Barca side would rinse Arsenal of 03-04.

Dennis Bergkamp too surely along side Henry and Pires

I would even include Viera in the "primary" group although his skill was in the ........darker .....arts , just like Keane :D

While I liked watching Ljungberg and Campbell, they didnt catch my eye anywhere as much as the 1st four mentioned

Maybe not in the Invincible's season itself but in 01-02 season Ljungberg was without doubt the stand out player in the league (certainly once Pires did his cruciate) and I was really counting that Arsenal side over those 3 years :)

I actually thought he was going to rip them apart lol

His comments are just a joke. Arsenal never played any of their games for draws. He compares current squads like Chelski and City to them but failed to mention the £100s of millions spent.

I will be the first to admit Pires diving, he was a classic diver and must have taken lessons for his clipping of the heal technique but I have also seen the same from other big players. Rooney comes to mind, Ronaldo, but Eboue must win the prize for best diver, even Arsenal fans covered their faces to those dives (Dont tell DM lol)

At the end he even says Juve attract the big players because they win things. Erm he is taking about the invincibles team that won the title... Sounds like he is just a bitter supporter.

The good thing is that even if teams like City who throw money at their team they still may never duplicate that achievement.

I wouldnt say they were the best team ever. But they certainly deserve credit for that season.
