Court ruling says that it must be blocked by UK internet service providers.
Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media must all prevent their users from accessing the site.

Only those ones named so far but still, censorship :(

The ruling has only just been made according the the article so how is it old news?

Yes you might not care about TPB but the fact of the matter is, this is going to steam roll.

ISPs were asked to block it voluntarily (old news), but this means that they have to block it, it was a long time coming and not at all surprising.

Ah well looks like the days of the free web are coming to an end, not that there won't be a million ways around this. I give it a couple of years until sites start getting blocked for all sorts of stupid reasons.

With any luck there will be an alt I.P that isn't locked that we can just all slap in the hosts file and ignore the block completely

Yes, The Pirate Bay is down at the moment. No, not everywhere.
Every time The Pirate Bay suffers a few minutes for downtime, thousands of people start to worry that something awful has happened to their beloved site. Luckily, this is usually not the case.
When the site’s not responding someone probably tripped over a cable, they’re working on software upgrades, replacing hardware or facing another technical difficulty.
The current downtime appears to be a routing issue as the site is still reachable in many parts of the world.
That’s also good news for people who can’t access it at the moment, because many of the proxies are still working just fine.
We expect that the regular site will return within a few hours, and will update this post when we hear from the TPB tech guy.
Update:TPB says that a ddos attack is taking out part of their system at the moment. They are working on a solution.

For anyone that reads the BBC news then this is pretty much old news.
It went into action last night as far as I believe, it was difficult to access the website (and no I'm not going to say I don't use it because I do)

What struck my the most was the particularly easy way of getting around the ban by viewing a cached copy of the website.
There are many other ways too but I'll not mention them here. They haven't really thought it through if you ask me.

Can you link to the BBC article please as I can't find any stories about TPB over the past 24 hours.

Where does it say it would be blocked last night? Also this thread is originally from the 30th April, I bumped it.
