things at work that make you cringe?

Everyone whinges about their managers, I've done it enough over my time.
However, for once, I am actually happy with my manager. A rare decent one that listens, understands and has a clue what he is doing and want's to help the team as best he can. Shocked.

Actually, my last 2 managers have been great. Almost forgot about Clive for a minute, another of a rare breed :)

People listening to really poor radio in work, males, and on these stations they just constantly play love songs.

Ewwwww! Stop polluting my ears.

Senior management wasting money on useless IT **** they dont need whilst laying of people in our department who are needed to support it.

If you don't have anything better to do Babelfish, then work out how I can stop my Onkyo 609 not making sounds when I start to play a youtube video through my 580GTX HDMI through it.. any time my PC makes a slight change it takes a few seconds for audio output to catch up. :)

Have you tried using a premium HDMI cable? They perform much better and even have gold plated connectors! An IT specialist at a PC repair shop in Cornwall sold me half a dozen, good price at £39.99 each. :)

/sarcasm :p:D;)

Isn't that fairly normal?

My Onkyo does it when the sound changes from DTS to Dolby D or simple stereo.

man you got a bargain there, and an excellent choice too. i would however of used VGA cables or S-Video if your TV is new enough to support these formats, as the quality is infinitly better with both of these.

/sarcasm continued ;)

Haha! :p

I did some voluntary work for a few weeks in the local 'tech' shop a couple of months ago. I hated it. The only thing I had to sit on was this terrible bottle-cap bar-stool. Rivets included, it was painful and I couldn't stand it (pun intended :p)!

Apart from watching him ignore customers on his live chat while he playing World of Tanks there wasn't much to do. He was the type that eats greasy food while using a keyboard too. Eurrghh!

I was half expecting to be fixing laptops and building computers, but nope I did none of that.

Latest iphones and ipads? New 50K+ plus company cars? Yep, seen it before. They are called "not serious companies".

Worst things i've experienced:

1. People nice to your face, say that they understand a certain situation, etc. Then after, backstab you to your boss via e-mail, "because this is why I cannot do my job today, it's HIS fault".
2. People that copy in every manager they can find as a prod to attempt you to do things faster.
3. The fact you can trust no one at work because you know whatever you say will be passed on.

well i did said job of installing the drivers, and well, the manager said that because I 'caused inconvinience for the customer' as he had to bring the machine in rather than me making up some random website that would have had the drivers (i got them direct from Acer, unsure why they found this to be a problem) he wouldnt be charged for it.
beggers belief some of the stuff that goes on.

1 bosses that skim emails and dont read them properly then ask you for the same info 2 weeks later
2 staff assesments and personal performance reviews every year
3 reflective diaries and why dont you keep one.. cause i dont wanna reflect on my day i just wanna go home
4 pay awards that are below inflation
5 trying to get purchases with out the correct cost code from the correct department and no one else will take responsibility for spending out of their departments budget even tho its all the same company
6 daily health and safety messages
7 green travel policy
8 admin
9 slow IT
10 backoffice support moved to india
11 3 hr teleconferences where the same person speak for 45 minutes cause she likes the sound of her own voice but actually gets nothing done

im sure that there are a few more things that make me cringe

but overall i love my job

that's actually very similar to the **** I have to deal with at work. personal performance reviews are the high on my hate list and the fact that my work bonus get's the life taxed out of it before it enters my hands :(

My main gripe at the moment is HR staff who like to screw around with flights and stuff to make your life more difficult/less fun because you actually did a decent degree and got a good job which allows you to travel to nice places.

Wanting to change all 71 of our meru dual band access points to 5.0ghz instead of both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz. I made the case that everything needs to be N standard to support 5.0ghz

Unless we Use A, Which they suggested. I said no.

I had to argue for ages.... Christ.

+1

i get it watching sky sports HD. when it goes to an ad break the decoder chips switch and you hear the click, a muffled bit of audio then its ok. is this what you mean?

i would love to know how to normalise sound between DD and standard stereo on the TV. i always have to alter the volume on certain channels.

Pfff. you cant beat my new monster string and tin can cable i bought for £10000

it does mono and a B&W picture! it has platinum plated plugs too! ;)

Having some 60 odd year old bint put in a complaint about me because she thinks my Facebook photo is offensive (its Kermit the frog sat watching two frogs mating)

She saw it while looking through my works official Facebook page which all the staff members liked ages ago when it was first set up.

My manager has been great about it told me even if he could get me into trouble he wouldn't because what I post on Facebook as long as its not ****ging off the company or bullying other members of staff then its my life.

Just annoyed especially when u look at half the peoples photos who arnt staff
