Will be upgrading from my GTX 580 1.5gb Gigabyte Windforce in the next few months.Bought a Dell 30U11 about 2 months ago so I game @2560X1600.
Obviously Im struggling with my current gpu at this res.
Plan on buying 2 Gigabyte Windforce for sli (will be a couple of months before I can afford the 2nd one)but don't know if it's worth getting the 680 version over the 670.
Have scoured the web looking for comparisons/benches between the two but have found nothing.Blew my 2012 pc budget on the Dell 30'',have no regrets because it's a fantastic monitor and games look the dogs @2560x1600 even when I can't use max gfx setting due to my 1 580.
On most sites the 680 Windforce is coming in at over £120 more than the 670 version.
Have been offered £270 for my 580 this week.
So with limited funds would 2 670's be good enough to take on 2560x1600 or should I wait longer and save for the 680 versions.
Sorry for the ramble guys but need advice as this upgrade will have to last me for the next 2/3 years.
(No matter what I decide it will definatley be ''Windforce'' cards as my 580 has ran so cool and quite with not one problem since buying 15 months ago.)
Any help appreciated,thanks.

Get the 670 because even though most retailers have bumped up the price of these from launch day they still represent much better value for money compared to a 680.

The small difference between the GBT 670 and 680 is nowhere near worth the extra £80-100 each, especially in SLI.

It looks like Im swinging towards the 670's.Can't believe the 670 performs so close to a 680.Would imagine big 680 price drops when fully stocked at etailers in the next month or so and when launch price gouging settles down.
Have read a few user reviews on here that the GTX 670 Windforce makes the 680 a pointless upgrade.
Thanks for the reply guys, would love to hear from anyone who bought 2 Windforce 670's for sli and game @25600x1600.
This will be the first time in years that I won't be getting the ''top end'' card.
Why have nvidia made the performance of the 670 so close to the 680?
Can't see many 680's shifting unless theres a massive price cut and I would assume that the 670 has given AMD a huge kick in the teeth, hopefully the consumers will benefit.

Hi there

I have to say, the 680 Gainward on TODAY is a great deal.

But the Windforce 670, well not seen a bad clocker yet, as in one which can't do 1200MHz minimum, as such if I was buying, I buy one of those. :)

Thanks for the reply Gibbo.
Going to go with Windforce GTX 670 then add another one for sli in the next few months.
As you see from my pic(sorry about bad quality, need to retidy my cables also).
I have a TJ11,so cooling in the case is great.
Will I have problems with sli Windforce 670's,(I can remove my sound card so theres a good bit of space between the 2 gpus) if the 1st card blows heat onto the pcb of the 2nd card?
Just plan on doing a moderate/high nothing too extreme oc of the cards so wont be going over 50% on fan profile.
Will be buying the first 670 Windforce from here within the next 2 weeks, really hope OCUK will have enough stock as this card is looking like it's a big seller.

The TJ11 is great for air cooling, so i wouldn't say there would be any issues.

Still, i'd space the cards out as much as possible

Thanks Clee, yeah as I said if I have to I will take out my sound card.
Was planning on skipping the 670/680's and waiting for ''Big/Real'' Kelper but I can't see myself waiting another year struggling with my 580,makes no sense.
Paid a lot of money for the TJ11 but its simply the best case I have used in the past 17 years, plan on keeping it for a very long time so a long term investment.
Also planning to eventually watercool, will have to wait till next year for funds.
Would love to wait for GTX 670 prices to drop to RRP/sensible prices but every week I wait the value of my 580 drops.
Upgrading can be a right pain when trying to decide the best options.
Again thanks to everyone for their input, have to get this gpu upgrade right as it will have to do me fof the foreseeable future.

Hi Gibbo,

Any executive comments on Gigabyte 670 Windforce vs KFA2 670 EX OC?

Gigabyte GTX670 Windforce.

Just a shame prices seem to have increased on the 670's a since launch but still cracking value for money when you compare it to a GTX680.

Hi Gibbo,

Hi there

They are both very close.

KFA2 has a better power design.
Gigabyte however seems to edge it marginally in overclocking.
Both are as quiet as each other.
Both run very quiet!
Both boost to similar speeds out the box.

Its too close to call, but I love overclocking and because of that I'd buy Gigabyte with KFA2 a close second.

Granted the 670"s are better value for money , But the argument that they are close or can be clocked to give 680 performance is true , but for one thing , those rules apply to the 680 as well , so doing the same , the 680"s will just move back ahead , its all relative .
If u want best go 680 OC custom , if want high end value consider it a toss up between the 7970 and 670 the choice to me is tight , it depend on whats on sale on the given day .

On value for money a non reference 670 seems to be the better buy than a reference 680. Have a read around on the 670 thread, the windforce 670 is what I'm looking at getting, just waiting to see one drop a little

Do the Windforce cards work OK in a TJ11?
I'm in the opposite position where i have the Windforce cards and am considering the TJ11. however I read on the silverstone website that the heatpipe layout on CPU and GPU coolers is important in the TJ11.

I think the 670 Windforce is the 2500k of 2012.

There's a few GTX 6xx driver issues for nVidia to sort out (not from personal experience but thet do exist)

Apart from that my WF is easily the best gfx purchase I have ever made, if a little pricey in my view but that's due to lack of competition from ATI.
