Hey all,

Got a weird problem, cold water only seems to come out of the water tap sometimes when I turn it, its like a bit of a lottery!

Cold water comes out as normal in any other tap in the house, its just the kitchen one which is incidentally the tap closest to the supply pipe I believe.

I have tried turning off the water supply pipe, then opening all the taps to remove any trapped air, then turning water supply back on but the problem is still the same as before. For the last couple of months there been a loud squeal when the kitchen cold water tap is turned on as well.

Any ideas?

What do you mean? I need to replace the washer or something.

Sorry rushed answer, little time.

You will find more than likely that if you switch off the water and dismantle the tap you will find that the washer is knackered between the top and where the water comes in.

It will probably be split. You would think that it would leak but I have had taps go like this which means that as you unscrew it, it doesn't properly release to let the water come out.

Easy enough to check yourself. If it isn;t that, call a plumber...

bash it with a hammer untill the water starts coming out, the only problem you might have then is how to stop it ?
