Hi,

I recently purchased a H100 and - with not feeling necessary to upgrade to ivy - I upgraded my CPU to i7 950 too.

I already had 2 Noctuas and I used these and my temps weren't great (75C running prime). I change one of the fans to the stock fan and the temps dropped 5C to 70C. But the stocks are loud.

I'm therefore deducing that the Notuas, though quiet, are not up to the task.

It seems that the recommended fans are the scythe gentle typhoon and was wondering how these will compare to the stock fans in terms of temps and noise.

Temps - maybe similar. GT 1850 vs Corsair 2000rpm+

Noise - A bit less but not a quiet as the Noctua. GTs are not quiet but apparently make a less obtursive sound than standard fans.

Still 75 degrees is perfectly fine for a prime run with a 950. Normal CPU usage will be less than prime and therefore temps will be lower.

So make the choice. You can have quiet running but you can't have ther lowest temperatures unless you go proper custom water cooling, rather than these AIO units.

Personally I'd slow those fans down until the temps go up to 85 or so under prime before I would bother about temperatures, but that's me.

Thanks for the info.

I don't mind too much sound but the stock fans are very loud and like you say obtrusive.

Is there anything else to consider other than the GTs?

I would go with GT 1850 or Vipers

Thanks for the suggestion - that is very useful and I will look into the vipers as they seem like a good alternative.

Also the new corsair fans have been released so hopefully there will be some reviews soon.

I still cant see why people are moaning about the stock fans on the H100, they are not loud, far from it, yes if you run a mega super dooper stress test then yes the fans will ramp up faster and louder, but even at that they are not exactly that loud, I have heard worse, a lot worse infact, and lets face it, tell the truth, who has thier system running a full stress test 24 hours a day, probably 0.05% of the population, lol, so your stock fans are fine man, I am not trying to sell corsair here, far from it, I am only telling the truth as I have just bought one of the things, so I know, and I aint deaf, my hearing works fine.

Its the old story I keep saying, how quiet is quiet to you, do you want total silence or what ?

You see what I mean, it really does depend on what individuals think on it, theres no way other people can tell someone else "ohh this is slightly louder than that etc", because to the other person they might not hear it that way and it might not bother them in the same way.

All I can say on the H100 is I need a certain degree of quietness at certain times of the day and I get that no problems, infact its not even that loud that it bothers anyone in my house if I do a stress test, yes we can hear its louder, but thats obvious it will be louder during the stress, and then after that its quiet, so its one of those things that I guess only the individual can think thierselves when they try it.

But thats just my opinion and good luck to anyone who buys anything they want, thier choice.

I think you hit it the nail on the head there - it really depends on the individual. I for one can't stand them. I hear what you are saying regarding stress stressing when they are loud but for me they are loud when I'm gaming too - and it's not just loudness it's the sound which is very intrusive. Can't stand it. :)
