According to the WSJ:

Likely to be formally revealed at Google I/O, the mega-corp is planning to partner with a variety of OEMs (rather than just one at a time) in order to have up to five Pure Google (read: Nexus) devices available at once. Better still, the whole stable will ship with Android 5.0 (Jelly Bean) and will be sold directly from Google in unlocked form to consumers in America, Europe and Asia.
5 Different Nexus devices to choose from, plus nexus tablets :D

That's one way to ensure that multiple devices have the latest software on launch. I can't see OEMs being to happy about this.

It will introduce a very high level of competition as you can only differentiate on hardware and price for top of the range phones. The knock on effect to the SGS3s and OneXs of the mobile world could also be damaging.

I guess commoditised market can be good in some ways, but not sure if it's appropriate for the top end smartphone market.

Think its the right move, also I think OEMs should stop skinning android as a whole and instead maybe just include there widgets and apps or some other special features they have currently in there skin without totally changning how it looks. More like how they do with most of the tablets, it looks more or less true to googles vision with a few touches here and there.

This and the different builds/hardware should still be enough to have an actual difference between the phones but would overcome a lot of androids problems with updating and such.

It's a good middle ground between iPhone and android in its current form.

I also agree that skins are not needed with ics I think stock ics looks much better than touch wiz but sense is pretty good.

Will look at what comes out, would probably be a good time to get rid of the galaxy nexus

Ahhh, I just did a google search. Possibly announced at Google I/O, which is June 27 - 29 in San Francisco this year.

Intratech, how do you think the specs on this will be compared to the SIII? :p
