Will you go to windows8?

Do you know if the upgrade from 7 to 8 will be an easy trouble free experience and not be like a fresh install of everything? I'm currently on Vista and thought about upgrading to 7 but was told if Vista is going OK don't bother as the whole process was a nightmare.....

I really *want* to like it but so far haven't been able to get on with the metro ui... like a lot of people have said, i don't think tiles have sufficient functionality to be useful in the corporate space. Having said that, I need to spend more time with it / learn more shortcuts, and no doubt it should be much nicer on tablets / phones etc.

Moving to HTML5 / JScript apps that work across the different OS's / form factors has to be a good thing?

Too early to say. I like the optimizations and general improvements to task manager etc. Start screen has potential, but the rest of metro just doesn't work well with m/kb. I'll probably buy a tablet running it though.

Trying out Windows 8 at the moment, taking a bit of getting use to but don't really see anything that's a must have yet, the app store might change that and I really want to see the full mail app as the current one is beyond pants it's so restricted.

The new start menu is nice but so clearly aimed at touch devices that it feels like an unnecessary addon to desktop PCs without touch screen monitors.

Any one seen the new windows 8 UI. Is Aero completely out now?

It wasn't that great :p, although I'm not looking forward to a future of:

"Just press the Start butto... no, wait, press the Explorer icon, yes, no, yes the thing that looks like a yellow toaster. Now can you see the ribbon? Um, the ribbon... actually it looks nothing like a ribbon but it's a sort of menu that runs across the top of the window. No? Um, ok, you see that tiny little white chevron in the upper right... actually forget it I'll be round in half an hour."

I really quite like Windows 8 but supporting it is going to be a nightmare.

+1

As easy as it was to go from XP > Vista > Windows 7, Windows 8 isn't likely to be used on my desktop anytime soon.

It was designed for touch devices and that's exactly the way it feels. I don't like moving my mouse to the corners of the screen to open up new menu's although I'm quite happy with the Metro UI.

As I said in the Consumer preview thread, get the start button back (even if it points to the Metro UI Start Menu) and change it so I don't have to move my mouse to the corners.

Quite disappointed in all honesty.

Yea, easily, not sure why people are so hung up on the Metro side of Win8, its their if you want to use, but 90% of the time you wont.

Sometimes ill hit it for the odd search, and then ill have to go through that daft amount of lists, so from a UI, you're locked into that small space, theirs plenty I wont use in the metro side of things, but it makes obvious sense to have your programmes more accessible, I really dont know what people are crying about.

Everything else about it memory management, file transfers, how much faster it is etc, is what im a lot more interested in!

The top toolbar looks as if it's from Office 2007/2010

I suppose it would, it's the ribbon interface that was introduced with office 2007. It certainly doesnt look as clean as the older explorer interface but ribbon makes a lot of sense. You can hide it anyway, same as you can in office.

Seems a heck of a lot more responsive compared to a fresh Windows 7 install, not a huge fan of where certain elements are though, shutdown isn't in an intuitive place, mail app needs to be finished as the preview is sodding useless but over all it's actually not bad.
