Can't believe it, someone tried stealing our cars :(

Maybe they were after the window? Is it a particularly sexy window?

It is sheffield, i wouldn't put it pass them lol.

Not nice at all Shaun. As mad as it sounds, Fiesta ST's are a big target, same as any other top spec of hatchbacks. Stripped, then ebayed.

My keys always go to bed with me, same as my wallet and phone. You live in a really nice (posh) area but unfortunately, its in sheffield, what is full of cretins and jeremy kyle guests..... :p

Interesting... my business partner had a break-in/attempt to nick his Focus ST a few years ago. They failed [he scared them off], but it shook him up so much that he got rid of the ST for a less 'desirable' Seat FR... which was taken about 6 months later in a more successful break-in/drive-off.

That was in Sheffield S12 [as I said, a few years ago]. Clearly it's still a viable activity; possibly even the same gang :(

Exactly and most crimes are crimes of opportunity, odds are the thieves had a look earlier to see if anyone was readily accessible. Seen the keys and figured they could quickly break in, grab the keys and make off.

This.

An alarm would probably be more use in this sort of situation, probably in conjunction with CCTV.

Think about it, someone gets in and takes your keys, the next day you have video evidence of two men with their faces obscured taking your car, big woop? With the alarm, if they manage to prise the window open, a detector will set the very noisy system off and they'll most likely leg it.

Don't flatter yourself she'd eat you alive

Definitely. She always looks like she needs a good meal these days.

I agree with hurfdurf, the OP may feel a bit disappointed at the moment but this stuff happens everywhere. The UK (in general) is still a great place to live (just a little bit expensive...but that's another debate ;) )

nasty i always take my keys to my bedroom so they can't be seen at all.

this kind of stuff is upsetting though i wanted a vxr astra etc but this type of car seems such a target.

i worry about my mr2 but i hope its value is too lo low to be a big target these days.

We have got an alarm but unfortunately it's a motion sensor which only works when someone's in the room, it isn't connected to any doors or windows so until they've actually climbed in it won't go off (Unless it detects it smashing as a motion).

Indeed, this is a worry esp with us having the 350z now, we always take our keys into the bedroom with us at night and shut all the blinds at night so no one could see in, I really want to move somewhere with a decent garage.

Hawker

If I had a car worth worrying about and was concerned about someone breaking in to get the keys (neither of which apply to me) I would leave the keys in such a place that they couldn't be seen from any window but were blindingly obvious if someone was to get in.

Last thing I would want is some psycho standing at the foot of my bed asking where my keys were

Bit of a bump to reply to this, you can get detectors that fit onto the glass and set the alarm off when it is smashed/whacked.
