What happens to money when the Queen stands down?

Is this thread serious? What a stupid question.

You do realise most of our currency portrays dead/inactive people, right?

And the US dollar bill has a dead President on it?

Jesus H Christ. Some of these threads.

Yeah, how stupid is this, it's like there's one person who is on every single note or coin we use or something stupid like that.

why does scotland have 100£ but we don't?

One reason not to have higher denominations is it's easier to transport and store stolen/forged cash when it's in higher denominations. Admittedly 100 isn't that high, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I'm guessing that there aren't that many Scottish £100 notes that it would be a problem.

The Queen is on all of our banknotes and coins...

Look on the other side. Is that note invalid because Darwin is dead?

Every single US dollar bill has a dead President on it.

Money doesn't change because the person is alive or dead.

It'll just be redesigned and minted anew and slowly phased out.

It's a stupid question.

Chance are they've got new designs for coins and notes ready to roll already - if they haven't got a load of storage waiting already.

Realistically the Queen wont be around for much longer so they've probably made arrangements already.

It isn't a stupid question at all. Especially if you are not old enough to remember coins with George VI on them still circulating. All current legal tender notes have the Queen's portrait on them so asking if this will remain when the Queen dies is not at all stupid. Comparing our currency to US currency is irrelevant as US currency does not have a reigning monarch/head of state on it.

The new ones will have Camilla on them.

The £20 note with Charles will have to be widened significantly to fit his ears on the portrait.
